When things go wrong, they really go wrong (sorry for the length)Updated!! NEW UPDATE AND IT'S NOT GOOD!!!!
This isn't really parenting related, but I don't post much on any other board and I could use some hugs and well wishes. I know you ladies are great at that .
Last night DH,DS and I came home from a nice weekend with my family in TN. Everything seemed fine when we got home our two cats couldn't wait for some loving. DH and I ate dinner, gave DS a bath and put him down for the night. We were on the couch watching TV when my youngest cat Puck (10 yrs) jumped down from the couch where he was sitting beside me and started meowing in pain, panting and drooling. We immediately grabbed the carrier, grabbed DS, got a cab and headed to an emergency vet in mid-town(we live in Washington Heights). Why one of us didn't just take Puck I'm not sure. We were frantic and paniced and just weren't thinking straight. After getting to the vet and finding out that he had an apparent heartattack and was going to need to be kept and have tests done today, DH gave me his keys and some cash and walked DS and I to a cab. I put the keys in the diaper bag and headed home. The cab pulls up outside my apartment and we get out. Somehow my keys were left behind in the cab. Now, I am stranded with no $$$, no keys and poor DS at 12:30am . I called the super who said "Yeah, that sounds like a problem. I'm not there so you need to call a locksmith." My next door neighboor was kind enough to let us wait in her apartment for the locksmith to come. DH joined us later at around 1:30am.The locksmith finally arrives at 2:45am. He removed our deadbolt and then charged us $495 and told us that to replace the lock it would be another $300. We decided to live on the edge and just use our other 3 locks. Finally, we got to bed at 4am, but I don't think either of us slept. DS seemed to be fine just so tired that trying to get him to sleep was not the battle it usually is. I am still waiting to find out about my little fuzzy son. I know he is stable and they are running tests to find out how bad his heart is. DH said that from what the Dr. said last night it doesn't look good. I could just use some hugs please!!!
I started this by saying it doesn't belong on this board, but now that I think about it it kinda does. Puck has been my baby up until Tyler arrived in May.
Update: Thank you all for your support!!!!!!!
Puck came home last night. He has advanced heart disease. I told the vet that I didn't want to bring him home out of selfish reasons if he was in pain. She assured us that he wasn't in pain, but that he might be a little slower then usual. I'm so glad he is home, but I am still waiting to see how he is in the next few days. If he seems really bad we may have to make a really tough decision. In the meantime, I am enjoying petting and loving on him and listening to him purr.
Thank you all again!!!!
Update: Well, we have made the decision to let our fuzzy guy go. His first night home he seemed okay, but he is going downhill. He can't seem to keep any water down, has not eaten since returning home and instead of wanting to sit on my lap he is sitting in the other room facing the wall. Anytime I bring him out to the room I'm in he gets up and goes back to his spot. I just can't stand seeing him like this. I know it is the right decision, but it is soooo hard. I realize that I'm lucky that it is my cat and not my child who is so ill and feel guilty for being so utterly distressed. I think that it's not only that I love this cat, but that I got him when my little brother was killed. In some odd way he helped me through that difficult time and I became so attached to him. I'm sorry to ramble on. I'm just so upset and angry that I have to say goodbye to him.

Sounds like an awful night! Did you try calling the TLC for a lost set of keys?

How horrible, your kitty is in my prayers. I've been having health issues with my kitty too so my heart is really breaking for you.

I filed a report last night.
The great thing is that just about an hour ago I got a call from NYSC saying that they had my DH's keys. I guess that the driver dropped them off at a NYSC near where he picked me up because the keys had DH's little scanner member card on them. I wish I knew that cab driver's medallion #.

Lots of prayers for Puck. I know how hard it is when you have a sick animal.
