When trick-or-treaters come to your door...

Do you let them choose their own candy? Or do you just plop whatever into their bags?

In the past 20 minutes, I have had several complaints such as "I don't like what you just gave me" and "I want to pick my ownnnnnnnnnnnnnnn" (coming from a whiny 3 year old) and "Isn't there anything better?"

Call me an old witch, but when I was young, I would take what I can get and then trade with friends later on.

Makes me want to say back to them "Be grateful I even opened the door, you little sh!!ts!"

Re: When trick-or-treaters come to your door...

i hold out the bowl and let them take a couple of pieces, but if they try to take any more than that i say, "save some for everyone else!" that ususally does the trick.

sorry you have brats trick or treating you Chat Icon

I leave 1 bag of candy near the door until it is finished, then I put another one in its place. the kids get no choice. I hand it to them.

I just had my 1st one. a really cute little boy dressed as a cop Chat Icon

Re: When trick-or-treaters come to your door...

I put everything in a bowl and they take a few..I've never really had anyone take more than I thought was appropriate.

I had one kid last year who took one piece. I had to tell him to take another...his mom raised him right.

ITA!!!! I would never have complained as a kid if someone gave me something I didn't like - it's free candy!

Last year I tried letting the kids pick his/her own, but they kept trying to take handfuls and when I said "just one please" I'd get a whiney responce.

After that I handed out the candy and if I got a whiney responce I suggest trading with his/her sibling when they get home.

I'm probably the mean old lady on the block

I've never had a kid say that. I would probably take it back and say something like "OK, maybe you'll have better luck next door". Picky brats.Chat Icon

Tell them, "You get what you get and you don't get upset." I heard a teacher use that with her class once, and I use it sometimes.

Can't believe these kids were that rude! I'm assuming a parent was with the 3 year old? Was there any attempt to apologize for the remark? Little kids can be blunt, but they do need to learn to just take it and say thank you.

We have a chocolate assortment, so I'll let them pick what they want.
