When you change your dogs food...
is it normal for them to have some loose stools & throw up a little? Dallas threw up twice today. It wasn't a lot but he's an 8 lb dog & only eats a little to start with. Any throw-up is a lot for him. This was his 2nd day eating his new food.
Backround: Dallas was eating Eukanuba Puppy. He what we now believe to be a corn allergy (red itchy feet, itchy ears etc.), is too old now for puppy chow (10 months) & our trainer basically said that Eukanuba is crap. We picked EVO beef & Dallas loved it. I mixed it with his old puppy chow but he just picked out all the EVO & left the puppy kibble behind.
I feel so sad when my little guy throws up He ate dinner @ 7pm but waited until DH came home from work to throw up @ 11:30pm. Weird.

Those two foods are a big difference in quality. Yes, it's normal for any food to cause loose stools, upset stomach for a while. With that kind of difference, I'm not surprised at all. How long has it been? It took ours three weeks to fully acclimate.
Try soaking the food for five minutes in water before you give it to him also, so the food is already expanded. That way it doesn't expand in his stomach, putting more air in there.
Good luck!

I'm also a dog trainer...see my ad for Best Friend's Dog Training.
ITA with greenfreak, the soaking of the food (I like using warm/hot water) will expand the kibble prior to eating and should reduce/eliminate the expansion in your little guys belly.
Good luck.

Re: When you change your dogs food...
i change Jacks food abt every 6 to 8 months i keep a bit of the current dog food & mix in w the new until gradually its only the new he's eating. I also add a bit of cooked white rice to it as i make the transition. I always used warm water & Nupro w his food. The Nupro is for his joints. Hope this helps.
