Yes usually but if there is something I want to use that is premade that is fine too.

i dont like store salad dressings or marinades- except for diet ceasar dressing (too much work to make on my own)

i do make my own seasonings and spices from recipes

i will use boxed couscous and rice as a side dish along with some fresh steamed veggies

nope-
I cook, but I use premade marinades and seasonings
I used boxed rice (which I actually got DH used to)
I will make my own mashed potatoes and when my mom helps-my own sauce

I don't use precooked or boxed foods and make my own sauce, but do use bottled marinades & dressing.

Re: when you cook dinner, do you cook from scratch?

In the interest of convenience and time I use boxed rices and risottos. Sometimes I make my own pasta sauces sometimes I use a jar.

I am ultra picky about the pre-packaged stuff since there is a ton of salt and preservatives in them.

I like to try jarred marinades etc..but I always jazz them up a bit. I have been using Emeril's southwest seasonings like crazy. That stuff tastes good on anything! Last night-baby lamb chops.

On the weekends or days off I always make stuff from scratch but during the week I get home between 7:30 and 8 most nights and convenience is key.

I mix a little bit of both. I use box rices and noodle mixes a lot. I don't have the time to prepare stuff like that from scratch. I wish I did though, it would be so nice.

You mean rice doesn't always come in a box? Chat Icon Chat Icon

Seriously, by the time I get home from work around 6-6:30 after commuting an hour each way, DH is lucky I cook at all! (on the days that I actually do).

I see what everyone is saying about all the preservatives and salts in the marinades and dressings. In all honesty, I grew up eating preprepared stuff, and it has never even occured to me to make my own stuff! Chat Icon

When we only had one child I cooked breakfast lunch and dinner from scratch. Now that we have 2 its only dinner, and I'm sure once I have this baby I'll never cook Chat Icon

Everything is from scratch.
I now that I'm on Weight Watchers, I cook from the recipes on the site - which is kind of restrictive. I'm not really a pasta person - spagetti mainly - I hate it. But when I do make it, it's whole wheat from a box. Not really a sauce person either - so usually it's fresh garlic, tomato, basil and olive oil.

Re: when you cook dinner, do you cook from scratch?

Sometimes yes and sometimes no...

It all depends on what kinda day its been- and how much time I have before DS and DH are crying to eat...lol

Re: when you cook dinner, do you cook from scratch?

I try to make everything from scratch, but with a baby, it's really hard. Lately it's been boxed rice, etc. BUt I always make my own salad dressings and seasonings.

We try to make most things from scratch, though lately I have been using bagged potatoes rather than fresh. We do make our own rice-a-roni and rice pilaf though.
