When you say your child"slept through the night" what does that mean?

Also how old were they whne they started sleeping without waking up? My Dr said my boys should be doing 8 hours but Declan can usually only make it 6 before waking to eat or get a binky and some rocking. They will be 20 weeks on Monday

More then 8 hours to me...meaning I got what constitutes a nights sleep.

Same here. DD slept through the night starting at 3 months I think, but would wake once a night (until she was 1 Chat Icon ) to nurse or for a bottle. I still considered it sleeping through the night because she dream-fed (I voted for the wrong thing above, sorry!)

Well when he first started STTN he slept straight through with no wakings. Now he wakes around 4am for the binkey, but he really isn't awake. I just put the binkey back in and he goes right back down. I still consider this sleeping through.

Sleeping through the night is considered a 6-8 hour stretch from what I know.

Same here. I did have nights where he would wake up, and I would lay in bed and listen and he would go back to sleep within a minute or two. I also considered that sleeping through the night, because I didn't actually have to get out of bed and I also went right back to sleep.

This is what I considered it to be. I do a dream feed around 11 PM. DS goes to bed around 8-8:30 and sleeps through the dream feed. He doesn't wake up until 6-6:30 AM to eat again.

When she was 12 weeks old and I went back to work she would sleep from around 10-5 or 11-6 and I considered that sleeping through the night. Now at almost 18 months she sleeps from 7:30/8:00 and gets up 6:30/7am.

I didn't consider it sleeping through the night until I was sleeping until6-7am, HA! Although by 8 weeks, Paker was only getting up once to eat, then right back to bed.

I would say by 4-5 months he was sleeping 8-6

Now its 8-7 or 8 ...some mornings he will still get up at six though...

DS was doing 5-6 hours straight from the day he came home from the hospital. I consider DS starting around 7 weeks. He slept from about 11-8 at that point with no waking for bottles or anything.

Abby goes down anywhere between 7:30 and 8:30 on most nights. On day care days, she gets up at 5:15 without having woken up (95% of the time). On non-daycare days, she wakes up anywhere between 6:30 and 7:30. G-d has truly blessed me. When I was nursing, it was every two hours.

My DS is 4 months & most nights he sleeps from either 10-6 or 9-5 But some nights he may wake up for a bottle at 2 or 3 am. But those kind of nights are coming less & less. I am hoing he sleeps longer when we start solids ina few weeks.

DS "slept through the night" for 2 weeks in a row ( week 10 and week 11) He's been waking up twice to eat this week (week 12)

He slept form 7-8pm (when I put him to bed) until 5- 6 am(when he usually woke up) He did not wake up for anything. I was in heaven!!! I don't know what's going on this week. I'm sooo exausted all over again....

When he stopped waking up for the 2 or 3AM feeding and slept through until 6 or 7AM instead, we considered that sleeping through the night. He did that at 10 wks.

To me...STTN meant when I put her in the crib...I did not HEAR or SEE her until the morning Chat Icon She started around 6 months.

12 hours straight through.

he's still TRYING to sleep through the night (not wake-up mommy or daddy for any purpose).... but I think he gets dehydrated a smidge if he doesn't eat for 7+ hours Chat Icon He's 6 months old....

Re: When you say your child"slept through the night" what does that mean?

I consider sleeping through the night at least an 8 hour stretch without waking for any reason.

We brought DD home from the hospital and she was sleeping through the night already. Now is a different story--she's up at least 5-6 times during the night and it's really taking its toll on us. We were soooooo spoiled in the beginning... Chat Icon

My DS has been sleeping through the night (roughly 10:30PM until 7PM) from about 7 weeks. He was a big baby though (9 lbs at birth) and I think that helps a lot.

My son will be 10 months old on Sunday and is STILL not sleeping through the night so I guess I really don't have a good definition. Chat Icon

Re: When you say your child"slept through the night" what does that mean?

For us, we considered that "sleeping through the night" began at exactly 2 months/9 weeks when Jack slept from 11pm to 7am without waking. It was the night before his ChristeningChat Icon We took it as such a blessing.

eta: he was also a big baby. born 9 lbs 11 oz and I agree with OP that I think that has something to do with it.

Re: When you say your child"slept through the night" what does that mean?

DD is 20 weeks and sleeps anywhere from 10-12 hrs a night. This started about 6 weeks ago once we found the right formula that didn't cause gas for her. She literally does not wake for anything, other than to turn or kick occasiionally. She doesn't use a binky and we haven't swaddled her since about 3 weeks old.

DS has been sleeping through the night since 5 weeks. Then he would sleep 7/8 hours straight. Now at 4 months he sleeps about 9/10 hours straight. Occasionally he may stir or need his binky, but not often.
