When you started potty training did they have resistance
When you put them on the toilet. Jack fights it and hits when I put him on, but yet he will pee.
Is he not ready bc he is resisting sitting there - or is this normal behavior in the beginning?

Re: When you started potty training did they have resistance
I am a firm believer that when they are truly ready they will do it more willingly. Mads is still not potty-trained, but she's so close. I always ask, "Do you want to wear a diaper, a pull-up, or underpants?" Her getting a choice really seems to make it easier for her.
Just recently she has started telling me underpants and we've had no wee-wee accidents. She always gets a diaper for naps and bed, so she usually poops then. Today she wore a pull-up all day and asked to go to the potty rather than wee in it.
My SIL forced my 2 year old nephew by literally holding him on the potty- and he'd sometimes cry. He eventually trained, but it just seemed like such a traumatic process for him.

Re: When you started potty training did they have resistance
I agree with Amy...
Cailen resisted all the time. He held it in all day when I put him in underwear - refused to pee n the toilet, and then would have huge accidents at the end of the day. He didn't care about prizes (and they were things he was dying for!!!) He would tell me, "Mommy - I'll get them when I'm bigger!"
I finally decided to stop and put him back in pull ups. I stopped talking about it. I really planned on trying again when he was closer to 4.
One day, he just decided to try. After that, he was fully trained in 10 days. He just went upstairs by himself without wanting us to come upstairs to help!!!!
It will happen - but it is hard!

I agree with whats been said. When they are READY, there is no resistance. If he is fighting you, then back off for awhile.

But I am getting the feeling he is fighting bc he is being pulled away from playing.
I'm going to see how tomorrow goes and decide whether or not to throw in the towel for a month or two.

Re: When you started potty training did they have resistance
What happens if he's pantless?
We knew Mads was totally ready when she started telling us she needed to go on the potty during her nightly "nakey time" (yes, we allow the girls about 30 minutes of naked time or until someone has an accident-whichever comes first).
We had a potty seat sitting out in the room and she'd just go and sit.
It WILL happen.

I agree with the other about just waiting until he is ready.
If you do want to keep trying now though, I have read/heard that setting a timer to go off every half hour, then gradually increasing it until he asks to go.

He actually will let me know when he is pantless.
Today he had 3 pee accidents, 2 poop accidents and peed 10 times on the potty. What the heck do I do???
Honestly, I would pay someone BIG BUCKS to train my kid. Any takers?

Re: When you started potty training did they have resistance
ITA agree with everyone else. DD fought me when I started and didn't want to sit on the potty. I threw in the towel on potty training. One day a few months later she wanted to sit on the potty...and she was trained in a day all by herself. Very few accidents and she just wanted to do it. She was about 3 1/2 when she trained.

I'm going to see how tomorrow goes and decide whether or not to throw in the towel for a month or two. I felt the same exact way, but something clicked and now he stops playing and frantically runs to the bathroom!

That's almost 70% accuracy- which is GOOD!!! I've heard letting them run around naked (bottomless) all day for 3 days is a good way to try.

Tomorrow will be a naked day around here since DH will be home with me and I'll have an extra set of eyes. My neighbors will be in for a show!

Re: When you started potty training did they have resistance
I had the same problem with Michael while I was training him. I had tried 2 different to train him and then all at once he went by himself. Like everyone else has said, it was alot of easier when he was ready.

Re: When you started potty training did they have resistance
3 accidents isn't bad at all considering how many times he went on the potty. DS was pee trained for a month before he pooped on the potty. He had poop accidents every day for a month . I knew I needed him to go one time so I caught in him in the act before it came out and put him on the toilet and hugged him because he was scared. He went and never had accident again.
The one thing that worked for me is sticker charts. Let him pick out stickers and print out a character potty chart that he likes. Candy didn't help for us. He received 1 sticker for peeing and 2 for pooing. Once he completed a full page he got to pick out a toy.
