Where do you kids stay if you go away with DH for a few days?

So DH is going on a business trip in March and I am going with him. My mom said she would take off of work and watch the kids. Now, I am in NJ and they are on LI and we are flying out of NJ. My mom didn't seem to happy when I told her I wanted her to stay here the kids. It would be for 4 days (the 4th day we would be home late).
So do I just bring them to my moms or do you think she should stay here.

I have so many worries too and I don'tk now if I am being controlling or they are valid, them being the following:
1. DD has egg and dairy allergies so my family would need to make sure they aren't giving her they aren't suppose to
2. they will not stay on a schedule, my mother has never stuck to it so I worry that they won't get their naps, especially dd because she still needs them
3. what if they get sick, what ped. whould she bring them to
4. both kids have allergies to dogs and my parents have a dog. The reactions aren't severe but DS developes a cough that lasts about a week and DD gets a runny nose and eczema.

Now, I know DS & DD would love staying their I guess I am just nervous since I have never been away from them for more than a night.

So, do I need to relax Chat Icon

I would bring them to LI. I don't think it is fair if you someone offers or if you ask them to watch your kids and then make them stay with you.

4 days isn't that long and I am sure they will be fine!!Chat Icon

Andrew always stays at my parents. I would never ask them to stay at my house. Even when they go out east for the weekend, they bring him with them.

Well i only have one, and my DD loves my mom's house, so she is happy there. Its either there or my apartment.

But when my mom watches my neice and nephew, she goes to their apartment in the city. My nephew is still a toddler and needs his routine, his home, his crib- etc... And its also easier for my mom in the city where she doesn't have to drive anywhere.

My parents watch him at their apartment in the city or their house in Montauk if it is the summer.

This is not a flame, and I completely understand the whole "want DC to be in their own environment" but if someone is watching your kid(s) for free, you have to work with them.

I also understand the dog allergy, my DH is allergic to cats and my parents have one (has similar symptoms to your DC) but it has never stopped us from staying with them.

My mom always watches him and I bring him there, I wouldn't put her out and ask her to leave her house so she could come stay at our to watch DC.

I think it's very kind of generous for your mom to want to watch your children - I would totally bring them there. It's only 4 days after all - ENJOY YOUR TIME!!!!!!

You guys are right and I was leaning towards having them stay their but I just wanted some opinions.

I know my parents will be fine and if the kids are their my parents will be able to bring them places.

Thanks for the input.

Because of Josh's asthma and seizure, I really wanted my parents to stay at my home for my first time away.

They were fine with that.

My small apt is already baby proofed...drs are here.

Now that he's 2, I would go to NY to drop him off. That's where I am hoping he spends a week by himself every summer while DH and I get away.

DS stays at my parents from time to time. They are really the only ones I trust for an overnight.

My kids stay at the house. Its easier on everyone since its childproofed and has all their toys.

My in-laws watch DS on extended dates we are away. They watched him for 2 weeks while we went to Italy. I give them specific instructions but i also trust their judgement

Whenever our parents watch DD whether its over night or just for a couple of hours, we always take her to their house. She loves being at her grandparents' houses anyway. I don't think it's fair to ask anyone to stay at your house to watch your kids. Especially not for a few days.

I would try to make this work if the allergy problem isn't too severe. Make sure your parents are aware of this and clean beforehand, that might help. If they clean regularly, I wouldn't even say anything. I know my ILs have cats and their house is NOT clean though.

As for the food issues, I would make sure they read labels. You might even want to buy food for your parents to give them if you are worried about this. It would be easier for your parents, and then you can rest easy knowing they aren't inadvertently feeding your children something they can't have.

So envious--we can't leave DS with anyone so no overnight trips for us alone for quite some time.

She goes to my parent's house. I wouldn't want to make my parents be uncomfortable in my house and not be able to do their every day errands and stuff like that.

I would say relax. Chat Icon Chat Icon

DH and I are currently gone for a week and Logan was at my IL's in LI for a few days, today he's at daycare, then my parents are taking him to their house for the next few days.

I normally prefer that DS stays at our house for normalcy, but it wasn't convenient for our parents that way, so I wasn't about to look a gift sitter in the mouth!!

Remember that they love your kids just as much as you do and will protect them just the same.

We haven't gone away since having two. When it was just Roman we took a few trips and he stayed with my MIL. I don't think she could handle both Roman and Clover now and forget about when #3 comes.Chat Icon

She stays with my inlaws. I know when she is there she does not nap enough and eats lots of desert but well at the end of the weekend she is in one piece and I know she has a wonderful time with them so it is what it is.

Obviously food allergy issues need to be strictly adhered to but everything else, for me, is just a matter of giving up control.

When we go away MIL usually babysits them between our house and her house (she lives about 10 blocks away).

Once we went away to our time share and brought our babysitter with us so we can enjoy the night but did things during the day.

Re: Where do you kids stay if you go away with DH for a few days?

My DD stays with my parents at their house. She is always over there (we live a few minutes away), so she's very comfortable. Plus, my mom has a pack n play and a bouncer so it's easy to make the transition.

Good luck! I'm sure it will be fine.
