I think when members change their name it's usually related to some sort of harrasment and/or stalking. I never understand why there are always posts "outing" someone who changed their name...FM can do the trick if you need to know and I'm sure once the thread is started people FM the OP saying the new name. It kind of defeats the purpose for the member who went through the trouble, I think to be outed. 
It su cks that there could be harrassment/stalking involved. I hope that's not the case. But even so, if the stalker is good at their job wouldn't they just be able to figure out the name change?
