where to donate NEW clothes?

Around Xmas my mom bought a TON (like 5 huge shopping bags worth) of new clothes from Old Navy that were on clearance for under $3 each in all different sizes and seasons. She took them to the church today finally and no one would take them. Where do you donate brand new nice clothes to? We want them to go to good use.

Goodwill. They resell the clothes in their stores.

I drop at the one in Merrick/Bellmore twice a year.

Save your receipt!

I do brothers and sisters usually or give them to my MIL. She works in a school with someone who does not have alot and could really use them.

Hillside hospital has a "boutique" where you can donate clothes and they are sold to the patients in a "structured work setting- some patients work there for experience" for 50 cents. They really love it and cant afford new clothes. If you want the info I will give it to you, and you can get a tax donation receipt.

Re: where to donate NEW clothes?

I wouldn't donate to the Goodwill. Have you ever been in there? Their prices are ridiculously expensive. Especially for someone that needs to buy things inexpensively. They get Target's "salvage" items, i.e. clearance stuff that didn't sell and is being phased out. They pay .10 on the dollar for each item and sell it for more than it was on clearance at Target. Also, I threw away an Ikea rug in the dumpster of the development I lived in and it turned up at the Goodwill, stains and all. They were selling it for more than I paid for it at Ikea Chat Icon

I would donate to a shelter where you know needy people will actually get use out of them and not have to pay a thing for them Chat Icon

There's a place in Northport Village that will sell them for you. They get a percentage of what they sell it for. If it doesn't sell in 45 days, then they donate them.

Re: where to donate NEW clothes?

Goodwill has a store in Bellmore and a bunch in Brooklyn and in the city. You can donate there and they'll give you a receipt for your tax records.

Or a shelter - that is a good idea that someone mentioned!

If it's baby clothes you can always give it to Birthright which is a catholic organization that helps moms to be and new moms with things for babies that they may not be able to afford themselves. You can look up Goodwill's site at www.goodwill.com and Birthright at www.birthright.com - birthright also gives tax receipt.
