7 years ago today.
I was home sick with bronchitis and calld DH at home. (FH at the time)
He told me to turn the TV on any channel. We watched it togther, then he came over.
I tried calling my mom and dad a million times that day.
My mom worked off 6th ave and saw the planes sticking out of the buildings.

Re: Where we you....
I was at work, I worked at Computer Associates at the time
We had tvs in the cafeteria and we watched it until they closed the building for the day
I will never forget the silence in that building that day and seeing one of my closest friends crying at his desk, cause he already had known that he lost his father

I was on my way to work and didn't know that something happened until I got to work. They had the TV on in the conference room and I remember everyone standing around the table holding hands as we all watched what was happening.

In the Bahamas. We were just getting ready to go to the gym..we put the TV on. I thought it was file footage from 1993...when I saw it said LIVE, I said, we are at war now.
Boy, was I right!

I was still living at home with my parents. I was asleep when the first plane hit. My mom came and woke me up. I got to the tv just as the second plane hit.

Re: Where we you....
I was teaching in the Bronx.
Right around 3rd period, a co-worker came in and told me the towers were down. I replied, "Down? No, DOWN?!?" My best friend worked in Tower 2.
I was frantic all day long because, as a teacher, we don't have access to phones during the day, really. During the afternoon, I got through to her. I cried like a baby as she told me she made it and was OK...
I drove home after work over the bridge and saw the skyline smoking
I drove straight to my parents' house and collapsed in my mother's arms and we sat and watched the rest of the buildings crumble...
A day I will never forget...

Re: Where we you....
I was in class....medical billing. I was freaking out because my DH worked 2 blocks from the site and my BIL is a cop.
My mom actuallu got through to my DH....she called his cell using her fax machine line at work. He said he was fine....he never made it to his building that day, the subway wouldnt go that far. he was hanging around Penn station waiting for a train. He finally got home around 6pm that night.
My BIL was on a train on his way home when this all happened. He got home, took a shower and went back to the city. He didnt go down to the site at all, but did do alot of OT in his area.

Re: Where we you....
I was in English class at St John's. My friend and I raced home to our families and I begged my father not to go to work at JFK.
DH (BF at the time) loaded up his pickup with one of our friends and a bunch of strangers and drove them home from the 59th street bridge

Re: Where we you....
At work - I got in at 7:45 AM and we had 200 TVs on the floor tuned into CNN or whatever channel has the ticker running ...........(Securities related)
So, 2 months after I started my first job out of college, I sat through that .........Thankfully on 27th and Madison I was far enough away from the reality of it all -
They opened my building to anyone who was walking or wandering back from downtown and didnt' have a place to go - They fed them and gave them a place to sit and relax, as if that was possible .........
I think I sat in the office that day feeling numb until about 4:30 when I walked back to Penn with my Dad and met up with my Uncle ...........I will NEVER ever forget being able to literally stand in the MIDDLE of 5th Avenue and stare at the smoke and debris and mess flying from downtown ........ Downtown Mahanttan, my favorite place in the world to be, was ruined that day -

Re: Where we you....
I was in class. If I had looked out the window I would have seen the smoke (you can see the skyline from parts of campus) I remember wantingto go to the bathroom during the class, but didn't want to miss anything so I never went. My phone was on silent so I didn't know that my mom was calling me for an hour, I had so many missed calls.
After class I walked to the office I was a student worker at and the hallway I walked down was virtually empty. As I got closer to my office I saw people crying and I thought something must have happened to someone in the office or something. I came up to one of the secretaries and I asked her if she was alright and what happened. She gave me this look like what do you mean what happened. I told her I was in class and I'll never forget the next thing she said "The towers have collapsed we were attacked" I collasped into her hysterically crying and she walked me into the office. I remember crying so hard I couldn't breathe. I then went to grab my phone and saw all the missed calls from my mom and I called her back and she was crying. Everyone in my family was safe, but my parents lost a lot of friends and acquaintances that day. Campus closed 30 minutes later. Driving home all you could see was the smoke in the sky I cam home and watched them replay the planes flying into the towers and then when each one collasped. I remember every emotion I had that day, every single one, and I still feel them as I type this now.
7 years later it still feels like yesterday.

3 blocks away - Getting ready to go over there for a 10am meeting.
One of the guys I worked with came in to main office saying that a plane had hit the trade center and he was going to see about his wife and BIL that worked over there. None of them made it back.

Re: Where we you....
Both my husband and I were at work in the city when it happened. It was so scary trying to get out and trying to meet up with him. I ran over the 59th street bridge. I was so scared I thought they were going to blow the bridge up. I had such anxiety for a really long time.

Re: Where we you....
I was at work, my sister called me and I could not believe it when she told me, then she called me again and told me there was another attack. I was numb as it was becuase my dad passed away 3 weeks before, this made me go into a fog. I then went home my boss told me to go home and get gas for my car and stay at home. I did, then my best friend told me to come over she could not find her sister, who works in NYC, she finally found her after hours and hours. It was my DH birthday- we were not even engaged yet , he lived in Brooklyn and he could not get to me in LI. It was such a sad day that day.

Re: Where we you....
I was at work when a friend called and we both left work and went to her house and watched TV.
I count my blessing that I had 3 family members in the building and they got out.

Re: Where we you....
I was at work on LI & listened to it unfold on the radio...I called DH (was BF at the time) who was on his way into NYC for a meeting....He was stuck in traffic & turned himself around.
The garage across from us hooked up a TV & we all sat around watchin it unfold. I remember my heart sinking bc we knew that our close family friend was a pilot for American Airlines & he was home based out of Boston. We were very relieved to find out he was not working that day. Only later did we find out that we lost some close family friends from the FDNY
I remember coming home from work & just crying & looking at the world around us. It was such a day that will forever be etched in my memory

Re: Where we you....
I was driving to work listening to Z100 who was watching as the 1st plane hit and they were talking about what a freak accident it was, then they said the next plane hit and they were leaving their building.
DH (who was just a BF at the time) was home sleeping it was his day off. about an hour later I called him and told him I heard they were calling all NYPD into work for help, and that he should get up and call work. He went right in and they sent him down to the site. And thats where he stayed for almost a week. slept on a cot in the street a few times, then on a church bench. He took so many pictures, it was so sad. he worked at the site for a few months, then was shifted to Fresh kills, which I think was SOOOO much harder on him. thing things he saw there
Thankfully we didn't know anyone first hand involved.
I did thank God that day though. About 2 weeks prior my dad was fired from his job. We were so mad at him. how could he! But someone else knew better. He worked in the World trade center. His entire company died. No one made it out.

OMG. That's exactly why I didn't walk down there with my coworkers to get a better look. I did not want to see.
I was about 5 blocks away in my office. I got off the train right after the first plane hit, so I called my dad to have him check in on my step-mother who worked in the Towers. Luckily, she was on her way to court when it happened. I'll never forget a minute of that day.
