Where were you....

Where were you when you went into labor? I’m due with DC2 in 2 weeks. I know it’s out of my control when I go into labor but I’m starting to get nervous I’ll be at work or in the grocery store with a cart full of food lol ! I guess I’m just looking to hear how other people handled going into labor somewhere they didn’t want to Chat Icon

Re: Where were you....

I was home but it wasn't an all at once kind of thing. My water never broke either...they had to break it at the hospital.

I basically had some crampy, mild, irregular cramping on sunday afternoon and evening...worked from home that Monday since my due date was close so i figured something must be going on. Same thing... irregular, on and off cramping all Monday. Woke up 2am that night with more painful, more consistent contractions, went to hospital around 7 am...had herat 4pm.

So it was a slow thing...over the course of a few days. It wasn't fast or dramatic at all for me

Home trying to go to bed. Started timing my contractions at exactly midnight.

I think statistically it starts at night most often. Obviously anything can happen though.

Re: Where were you....

Mine was as expected as expected could be to the point that it’s kind of rare. I woke up at 6:30 ON my due date to my water breaking. So I was the 5% who had their baby actually on their exact due date AND the 15% of women who have their water break on their own. I worked until the day before my due date.

I was home with DH trying to decide what to have for dinner when my water broke. I wasn’t having any contractions. Good luck!

Home. Contractions woke me up at 3:30am. 12 days before my due date.

It wouldn't have mattered where I was, I didn't get to the hospital until around 8:30am.

Re: Where were you....

I woke up in the morning to pee and discovered my water had broken. I had no contractions but went to the hospital and they induced me. I was 10 days early.

I have the same concern should we have another child. If it's in the middle of the night what would we do with our son? In my family second babies come very fast once labor starts.

That's true. My labor started at midnight and I didn't leave for the hospital unto around 8am. I didn't labor with my second so I don't know how much faster it would have been but I still wanted to stay home as long as I could.

With my first I was teaching high school and the kids were worried I'd deliver right there in the classroom! I said if it was going to happen that fast, that would be awesome and I wouldn't care who witnessed it.Chat Icon

Re: Where were you....

I was at work. It actually didn't bother me at all. I drove myself to the doctor and then home. My DH met me at home and then we went to the hospital.

I’d also like to note not everyone is in labor for an extended period of time. Mine lasted from 1-5pm. The doctor broke my water around 3 and I had my son around 5 after only 30-35 minutes of pushing.

Where were you....

It started while I was out to lunch with Dh but I had been having lots of preterm contractions so I ignored it. About three hours later we were food shopping at Stew Leonard’s and I told Dh I thought I might be in labor. We went home. I took a shower and ate dinner then headed to the hospital around 8:30 pm. My daughter was born 10:30 am the next morning.

My water never broke until I was already at the hospital.

First one - my doctor told me I was 6cm dilated and I should go to the hospital - I had no idea, didn't really feel contractions at that point.

Second - I was out walking - about 3/4 mile from my house - at Dunkin Donuts when I started feeling real contractions. Walked home, called the doctor - since I'd had preterm labor a few times she had me come in -I was 7cm dilated.

At home both times.
#1 it was the middle of the night, got up to pee and my water broke. I had no contractions til I got to the hospital. She was 11 days early.

#2 - I was getting ready for my last day of work when back labor started, real intense. I was home all alone with DD and no one to drive me to the hospital. Had to call an ambulance. He was 9 days early.

Home, middle of the night for both #2&3.
For #3 the hospital actually sent me home bc it wasn't true labor/ no progress, it was past midnight & almost as soon as I got home we had to go back...they checked me & I was 8cm.. I went from 0 to 8 in no time.. the nurses were like.. What?! You were just here!! Chat Icon

At the hospital, hooked up to pitocin. I was induced. Chat Icon When I was checking in, the receptionist said she'd never seen anyone in labor so happy and calm. Ha, that's only because I wasn't in labor!

Where were you....

I only went into labor for DS 2 and I was home (induced the first time). I was at L&D two nights earlier for contractions close together but, they gave me fluids and they stopped. The next night, I felt really crappy - like stomach virus crappy - and was up all night. Started having contractions the next morning close together so I went to the hospital.

I think the Dr. knew it was coming because he told me I could go home or I could stay and he would induce (which he couldn't do since it was 2 weeks before my due date).

I stayed because I felt so crappy. My nurse made snide comments the whole morning about how it wasn't a good idea to consider induction at this point, etc... My water broke by lunchtime (and she didn't believe me when it happened).

DS 2 must have known she bothered me because her shift ended at 7 and he was born at 7:29.
