The food is amazing and the staff is wonderful..
ETA:
Cafe Foremaggio in Westbury (SP?) is also a resturant we enjoy.
Blackstone in Melville for Steaks.

Piccolo Sogno in Flushing - amazing fresh Italian food.
Dont laugh but "On the border" in Hicksville...we LOVE their food and its so reasonable!!

It's not fancy to say the least, but DH and I love Austin's Steak and Ale house in Kew Gardens.
Skins are the best that we have had! They are great for everything from burgers/sandwiches to soups and steaks. Prices are reasonable and we have NEVER had a bad experience since we have been going there (over 10 years now!)
We still make the drive there just for dinner from Smithtown. It is located at the train station, so if anyone is coming from the city it is super easy.
Our favorite "nice" restaurant is Burton and Doyle in Great Neck - great food, great atmosphere.

DH worked there when it was Sal & Vinny's too - he liked it better then. I still love their food!
