Re: Which are the best school districks

as for what? learning? graduation rate? scholarships to college earned? state basketball (or whatever sport) championships. I think "the best" all depends on your measuring scale.

This would be my list as well. The only additions might be Half Hollow Hills and Elwood.

hehe I laughed at the irony.

I think the "best" is subjective. It really depends on what you're looking to get out of a school and what you're willing to put into one. Personal experience, to me, is more valuable than exaggerated test scores, etc.

I agree with the OP, it really depends on what you want to get out of the school, test scores are NOT everything

Seriously! She spelled it wrong, why all the snarking? yes I understand the humor of it but no one who snarked even said "no offense" or anything to let her know they are kidding. Jeez!

Re: Which are the best school districts

Agreed that this is subjective and 'best' should be based on the needs of your child/children.

I chose Sayville and one of the main reasons was because the district is smaller and I felt like my kids wouldn't get 'lost'. I have been thrilled with my experiences so far. The teachers have been attentive, we have open communication and the PE classes are fun, educational and inventive.

I also like that the town itself is family friendly. We are always getting notes home about the various events and activities going on for the wee ones - Fridays in the park (movies, concerts, arts and crafts, etc..), street festivals, parades... there is a great sense of community here which really makes me happy with my choice.

But... you might be looking for something a little different so I can only tell you what I like! Chat Icon

Re: Which are the best school districts

It depends on what you want in a school. Remember sometimes the best districts are really bad with helping children with special needs.
Anywho, I would chose:
Half Hollow Hills
Harborfields
South Huntington
Smithtown
Port Jefferson
Cold Spring Harbor
Miller Place
Mt. Sinai
Northport
Sayville
Three Village

If I were to chose, I would chose a middle ground SD like Comesquoge (sp) or Sachem so they could better accomodate children with special needs. JMO

Let's not make assumptions about students with special needs. There are many factors out there that are related to the services that a student with special needs receives.

I would have to say South Huntington, the district caters to both high achievers offering AP courses meaning college credits and others with learning disabilities, handicapped etc.

Re: Which are the best school districts

Our son goes to Connetquot, as a whole I am very happy with the education he is receiving. My only "gripe" is that I feel too much emphasis is placed on certain standardized testing for class placement. I had to fight to get him into advanced classes because his scores didn't dictate that. He is in all honors classes except for math and manages at least a 94% overall every semster
