Re: Which Diaper Disposal System?
We have the Dekor. I think it is worth getting one. They are really just a glorified, more expensive garbage can anyway. We can opt to change the bag as often as we would change any garbage bag and this way it is somewhat sealed for the length of time that it is in the house. We tend to use the small individual bags for each poopie diaper anyway and then we put that into the Dekor. I am super sensitive to smells and I do not want to chance geting nauseas (esp. after being that way for 9 months). The only problem is that I feel bad that there is so much waste going to our landfills. My sister used to carry each dirty diaper outside even if it was the middle of the night. I just can't see doing that. Oh, for the small bags I really like the ones that smell like baby powder. They are called Sassy Diaper Sacks.

Re: Which Diaper Disposal System?
I have the diaper genie...only thing available over here really...we live in the country...no garbage pick-up so we either have to burn the garbage or wait till DH can bring it to town once a week and drop it off at his moms shop...cant have outside garbage pails cause of animals and wind...not having that sit in a normal garbage pail...we will see how it goes!

Im not getting any of those....i dont want to store dirty diapers in the nursery...the wet ones will go in the kitchen garbage or something and the dirty ones staright outside
No they won't...you aren't going outside to throw it out at the 3am. I have one and used it when she was bfing. Emptied it daily. I do think it's worth the $20 or $30.
i will be putting them in a plastic bag and if i have to i will leave it at the backdoor and my DH will put in the the garbage in the morning
exactly!!
Some newborns go poop every time they eat so some days you are going to have 10-12 dirty, poopy diapers. In the beginning you'll be lucky you get to eat nevermind have time to go outside with every poopy diaper. Not that you need a disposal system but it does help and when they are little...the poop really doesn't smell. I would, at the very least, get the scented diaper bags. I'm just trying to help as I have already gone through it.

i wasn't going to get one but got the genie as a gift. i really like it, actually. i don't mind the smell of the bags. my nursery doesn't smell at all - but ds' poop doesn't have a strong odor to begin with - one of the unexpected perks of breastfeeding!

Same here. Though in my building there's a garbage chute 2 doors down the hall from us, so painfully bad ones can go out immediately.

Re: Which Diaper Disposal System?
I got the Diaper Champ. It got good reviews in Baby Bargains, and I like that it uses regular garbage bags. It really does eliminate the majority of the smell. Once she really started eating solid food and things got real stinky, I started putting the poopy diapers into those disposable plastic bags and putting them into the Champ. I love it.

Posted by ssdbk there is so much waste going to our landfills.
This is a big reason for me as well. I don't want to be wasting a 1/8th filled garbage bag every night. I will get the biodegradable small baggies and put them in a pail outside. If the 20 seconds walking to the back door proves to be impossible, I will have a small tupperware pail in the babies room.

Re: Which Diaper Disposal System?
ok, I definitely decided to not get one. We will be in our apartment in the begining anyway and the garbage is feet away.

We have the Diaper Champ and love it! It never smells, and you dont have to buy special bags, just regular kitchen garbage bags.

I went for the Diaper Champ because it good good reviews in Baby Bargains and online, and I also like the fact that we can throw any plastic bags into it--we don't need to buy special ones.

Re: Which Diaper Disposal System?
Get those little disposable blue baggies that sell in BRU (come 200 to a box) and smell like paper powder and throw them in your regular trash. One of the best finds I found....those disposal systems are a waste of money. You have to buy their specific bags for them.

these are exactly what I registered for... I got them primarily for the diaper bag tho... If there is something treacherous in the house, and I don't feel like tossing it, then I'll use one of those.

Re: Which Diaper Disposal System?
I have Diaper champ, yeah you can use any kind of garbage bag, but the thing I dont like about it is, when you rotate the handle to drop the diaper sometimes it wont go, it gets stuck so you have to open it and pull it out... not pleasant at 2am and half a sleep.
But other than that its pretty good, no odor and dont have to buy special bags
