Which finish for wood floors? Satin vs. Semi vs. High gloss?
We are refinishing our wood floors before we move in and the floor guy is asking me to decide about the finish.
They are light floors, a natural color. I know I don't want high gloss, I don't like that mirror look! He is saying satin finish is basically matte. I do want a little shine but not a lot. He said to achieve a semi gloss look he would do a coat of high gloss and then a coat of satin to tone it down... I'm still scared it'll come out too shiny!
Any suggestions or recommendations? Is satin really too dull?

I don't know what the finish process my guy did, but I requested a Satin finish and I like it. He may have done coats of semi-gloss then a finish coat of satin, I don't really know.
I had semigloss in my old house and it was OK, but definitely showed scratches more and I wasn't as fond of it.
I have a medium brown stain, so not exactly the same.
when I was choosing they did have a matte finish, a satin finish, a semi-gloss and a gloss.

I have a natural color wood with a satin finish in my bedrooms and the upstaits hallway and I'm really happy with the way it looks! I also have semi on the wood in the living areas and like the pp said, you can see scratches. I'm rough with my vacuum on the floors and have moved heavy furniture across them and I gotta say the floors they have held up better than the semi. I had them done 3 years ago and they still look great.

We just got ours redone. We have satin. There is no real shine to the floors. But they are not dull. They have a subtle sheen and just look smooth. Its similar to my cabinets not shiny but not dull.
Eta I wanted high gloss simply BC I wanted they to look sparkly new. But my floor guys said with two boys, who are rough on everything and a dog I would be cleaning constantly. He said scuffs and scratches show up more with the higher gloss

We went with satin. With dogs and high traffic areas, anything with a gloss will show everything. I couldn't see myself swiffering the imprint of paw prints constantly!
I love how they look.

it's a matter of taste - I like a more rustic look so I like the matte satin finish
I hate the look of high gloss - my Mom has it and I feel like it looks like a museum

Mine wont be a year old until the summer but I have a toddler who runs wild and have no scratches. My guy put a few coats and, fingers crossed, looks perfect
