Which mattress for big boy/big girl bed?

Which mattress for big boy/big girl bed?
For those that purchased mattresses, which ones did you buy? We just looked today and I have to say they are much more expensive than I thought. I was wondering if one type (foam, pillowtop, euro top, firm, plush, etc) is supposed to be better for them as they grow. I thought I read somewhere that they should not have the foam mattress, but I don't remember why. Of course, DS was no help as he was just jumping from bed to bed in the store.
What did everyone buy?

My dh works for Sleepys and has helped out some LIF mommies with their big boy/girl beds.
Jared has a full size kingsdown mattress that is soft but firm at the same time.
If you'd like to see him, he works in the Roosevelt Field location. Fm me fro more info.
