Which would car would you want? UPDATE
My car is in the shop -- It may be too $ to fix so we are going to look into cars this weekend. We have narowwed it down to these two - any opinions?
Thanks for all the feedback - I highly recommend test driving cars you are interested in purchasing. We wouldn't have gone wrong with either car but I found driving the Forester easier for some reason - it was a more comfortable fit for me.

Re: Which would car would you want?
we had a subaru back in the 90s and it was fantastic. a total and complete tank that we had till finally the bottom rusted out from road salts; had close to 250k miles on it too.
i have friends that have newer ones and they love them. great great cars.

Re: Which would car would you want?
SUBARU - I dont like the CRV.....But I know from experience with owning Subaru's that they are excellent safe, quality built cars. You have all wheel drive all the time....Good Gas Mileage....and reliability.
I am sure the CRV is a Great SUV also, so either way you will be making a good decision

Re: Which would car would you want?
we have a subaru forester and I HEART that car.
we have a limited edition STI model and it's very cool looking. but even the regular models are cute and the handling is wonderful. it also is big enough to fit EVERYTHING, yet small enough that we're not driving a boat and it gets good gas mileage.
my dh says the cr-v looks like a pontiac aztek with lipstick though , so to me this is a no brainer.

You definately need to drive both. They are 2 completely different driving vehicles. Good luck
ETA - I personally can not stand hondas at all. Not my driving preference.

Re: Which would car would you want?
subaru! my husband and a bunch of his friends are all mechanical engineers, so basically they could design/build cars.... they all drive subarus and swear by them! they are just really well built cars. DH had a WRX that had almost 140,000 miles on it and was still doing great. He just traded it in for an Outback wagon with the turbo engine, just because he wanted the extra room of the wagon. its a GREAT car with a nice smooth ride. he also got a great deal on it, too.
you don't have it on your list, but i drive a toyota RAV 4 that i'm really happy with, too. Its a 2006, its roomy but not too huge, very comfortable to drive and good on gas for an SUV... worth test driving at least. I would have gotten the forrester instead, but back in 2006 i didn't really like the body style of them- the new ones are a lot nicer!

DH is an auto mechanic and says that his next car will be a Subaru. He thinks they are good cars compared to most of what is out there.

I think it depends on the mechanical engineer you talk to and his or her preferences. My DH is a mechanical engineer and would choose Honda over Subaru any day.

haha yeah-- i don't think you could really go wrong with either one. i think they're both made well- just a matter of preference.

Re: Which would car would you want?
I would test drive both of those vehicles b/c although similar they feel very different when driving them. I think the CRV is great if you have a small tush - size 10 and below. If not, the seat is just not comfortable. The subaru is a solid car. But I felt like I was driving a station wagon and not a crossover. I got a mazda cx-7. I might have gone with the cx-9 but when I purchased my car the 9 was not available. I would also look at a toyota and a volvo. I prefer toyota, volvo, and mazda over both the subaru and the CRV.

I have a CRV and love it. It is comfortable and rides like a car. My DH doesn't like it as much b/c he says the seat is too small for him. He's an average sized guy. It is a great SUV but I would make sure it's comfortable for both of you before you get it

Re: Which would car would you want?
I had a subaru that I LOVED, it lasted 10 years without any major problems. The only money I put into it was general maintenance.
More importanatly, to me, the subarus are animals in bad weather, I always felt very safe driving that car in bad weather.
