I have the CR-V so I am biased. Honda cars are great cars. They have a great reputation. Hold their resale value very well. Great engines!

I have heard great things about the Suburu Forester and those who have it like it.

The Honda CR-V was redesigned a couple of years ago. It's target is moms with kids. And it fits perfectly for this target. Personally I find the car to be "girly". More than the previous models. Even DH says it's a chick car. Yet, I see a lot of men driving it. The use of space was very well done. The trunk is much deeper than most SUV of similar size. Which was a very nice selling point for me. I also like that you could fold all the seats down or 40/60 for more trunk storage. As far as power it is a 4 cyl. But I have had a V8 and a 6 cyl prior to the CR-V and never felt under power. I can merge into traffic without issues. I love the car and the way it handles. The one thing I would say as a con is that I noticed the car scratches a lot. Small scratches but still very easily done. AND I am very careful with it.

Last year we went for a few days trip to the Hamptons. We had 2 dogs with both a travel crate and a folded bigger crate with their food and bowls, luggages for DH and I for 3 days. Camera, tripod, beach towels. Pack and Play for baby to sleep, toys, diapers, food, clothes for a 1 year old child. The carseat. It was tight but all did fit in the car.

I'm not a fan of the CRV. Well, Honda's in general despite thier rep, so I would choose the Subaru.
