I'd prefer a station wagon.
(because I just have to be different)

Re: Which would you prefer - a minivan or an SUV?

I thought I'd never drive a minivan, or an suv for that matter.

However, I rented a minivan for work once and getting 2 babies out of a minivan when obnoxious people park WAY too close is so much easier than a car or SUV. The auto sliding doors are a God-send. I have a Honda Odyssey, I love it. We have DVD player and all the features of an SUV, but with 2 car seats, it's great to have access to that third row if we need it. We also can use a middle seat if we want between the 2 car seats, when DD#2 was smaller I sat between the 2 car seats sometimes. Now that I have a minivan, I can see us always having a minivan in the family even if down the line we have other cars/SUV's. We've thought about upgrading a car we recently got to a mid-size SUV. But the minivan's been great. If you ever go into a parking lot, sliding doors are a must have with babies.

ETA: I find driving the Odyssey like driving my old Accura as far as handling. I mean it's obviously bigger, but the technology is awesome. DH is a big gadget fan so we got one with gadgets and leather and all. I get compliments on it believe it or not. We also got a slightly used one - only 6 months old, so we saved a ton. I personally don't like the big SUV's like Suburbans, Denali's and never understood what people like about them. They look so cumbersome and yet they are out there. I would love a second car as the Cadilac cross over, I like that thing, but not as our only family car.

We have an SUV, but only one DC...I'd like to stick w/SUV, but I don't know what the future holds...it looks like minivans are more convenient...

DH and I talk about this all the time and how we view people with minivans now....like one day they broke down to go get it...because it *seems* like most people wouldn't be so excited to go out and buy a minivan for a new car

Re: Which would you prefer - a minivan or an SUV?

We are getting a new car in October and I am pretty sure we will get a minivan. The 2010 Toyota Siennas are supposed to to be really nice and they lowered the price slightly. The only SUVs I would consider are a GMC Acadia or a Mazda MX9, but I don't really want to get an SUV if the 3rd row is not accessible without moving the car seats. I have to go look at everything in person. I don't "want" a minivan, but it seems to be the most practical.

we have both and i hate when i have the truck... never thought i would be a minivan mom until we actually purchased one a few months ago... it is a million times easier to get ds in and out of it and i never have to worry about people parking to close to his side that i cant even get the door open..

I've never met a minivan owner that regrets the decision. I love mine and it has been so convenient and comfortable.

I used to be anti-minivan until we rented one once when we were in Florida. DH and I fell in love with it. Def. the most family friendly vehicle for those of us with little ones. SUV's never appealed to me as a family vehicle they seem too trendy to me. Still can't afford either but actually looking forward to the day when I can become a minivan mom! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Which would you prefer - a minivan or an SUV?

LB - our lease is up soon and this is the exact issue I am having right now.

We may have another kid - but not for at least two years - but I still have ZERO room for anyone else in my jeep in between the two carseats. it's just so squished back there. Plus the trunk has zero room since I usually have two strollers back there. There is no room for my packages at all. It's a nightmare.

I just don't know that I can see myself in a minivan. I do think it's going to be something i have to get over if we can't find a third row suv that we like.

ALso- i have rented many minivans on vacation, and my god, they really are soooooo easy and roomy.

Re: Which would you prefer - a minivan or an SUV?

I would prefer an SUV but I think I am going to have to get a mini-van with the triplets..... The only SUV I feel had enough room for 3 carseats a triple stroller and all the other crap is a Suburban but thatis to big and I cant see me climbing to the last row to put in car seats. A mini-van is much easier so I think it will be a Honda Odessey when I get some money together...

Re: Which would you prefer - a minivan or an SUV?

Too funny that you posted this. I was a staunch supporter of SUV's. I've had suv's for the last 7 years, I said there was no way in hell I would get a mini-van. Welllllllllllllllllllll being #3 is coming in a few months DH thought it best if we checked out minivans.....nonononononononono

Last night DH came home with a 2010 Honda Odyssey, can I tell you in 1 day I'm in freaking love with it. It doesnt look to bad, the interior is leather, has in dash nav, entertainment package, all the bells and whistles and omg the space!!!

Sure I dont see myself driving it to my girls nights out, but getting me and the kiddies around its freakin sweet

With one child and one on the way, I prefer an SUV. Not one of those tiny ones though. I need space for two carseats and a 3rd row and ample space for a stroller.

ETA: I wouldn't rule out a minivan for 3 or more kids. I've seen some very nice vans and the space would be a huge selling point for me.

I love my minivan. I had a Highlander and it was too small when #2 came along. I love all the conveniences of my Odyssey. I love that I can walk back and help the kids get ready, especially when it's cold out. I love that I can open the doors with the key fob. And the sliding doors are the best when I'm in parking lots -- it's hard to get kids into car seats on both sides of the car with doors that swing open.
