Which would you say is safer, hotel or a plane

I am planning on going to Fla in week or two. I am worried about getting on flight. We are willing to drive but I am just as nervous about staying in a hotel on way.

Honestly I'd have no issues with either but if I had to pick, I'd say hotel I guess
It's just you in the room, rather than a lot of people breathing recirculated air.
Bringa can of lysol and/or clorlox wipes and wipe/spray everything down in the room when you get there.

If you are worried - I wouldn’t go.

But I would think a hotel is safer as well - an airplane is full of germs on a normal day.

I think it’s perfectly normal to worry. Cleaning the entire place once you get there would make me feel more comfortable.

Just wanted to mention though, am I making it up or did I read any travelers from NY area going to FLA have to quarantine for 14 days when they get there?
Make sure that isn’t the case before making the trip. That would blow

Yes that's still in effect.
However I believe a poster who is currently living down there says they are not really enforcing it at all.

I would be completely comfortable in a hotel. Wipe down all the surfaces and air it out a bit if possible.

Air travel makes me nervous and I wouldn’t fly anywhere that I could safely drive instead.

But I wouldn’t force myself to do anything I wasn’t 100% comfortable with. If it’s going to make you so anxious that you can’t enjoy yourself, what’s the point?

A hotel. I think they are a *little* more thorough with cleaning. Planes, on their best day, are disgusting and they literally reload a new flight within minutes of the last flight coming off so you KNOW they aren't cleaning much of anything.

Need to get to my parents. As far as quarantine in fla from ny, we are pretty much staying at their home, not going anywhere, but need to get there.

Hotel. I wouldn’t be able to deal with wearing a mask for a few hours straight on a plane. And I’d rather just be with my own family instead of with strangers on a plane.

I was thinking the same, hotel safer. I am wondering if we can pull the drive off in one shot, no hotel. Im thinking roads are a bit emptier and we wont run into the usual heavy traffic.

My BIL and SIL did it in one shot in early April. The left Florida at 4:30 AM and were in NY by 10 PM or something like that. But they are two adults without kids, so that can make a difference. Try it and see how far you get.

You couldn't pay me to sit in a car for 20 hours, so I would fly. Airlines have ramped up their cleaning efforts according to the groups I'm in and everyone is required to wear a mask. The air is filtered on the airplanes. If it weren't everyone would get sick flying on a normal day and that's just not the case (we fly a ton and have been sick exactly once). In addition, you will be stopping to use restrooms at rest stops all along the way, which is another factor.

What part of FL are you driving to? I say try to do it in one shot with no hotel. We did it with 2 kids, they were ages 6 and 2, and the kids were great. What made it miserable is that we hate road trips. It took us 19 hours and we only stopped 3 times, 2 for gas, 1 for dinner.

When my DS was going to be born my parents were in FL on vacation (he came weeks early bc of severe pre-e). My dad (and mom, she didn't do any driving though) drove 22 hours straight, from central FL to LI, through the night and unfortunately rain storms in several states, trying to get to the hospital before my DS was born. It's not fun but possible. GL!

That's why I am toying with flying vs. driving. Southwest claims they are only filling 2/3 of plane. And the restrooms, yes, have thought of that.

Central Florida. We have driven straight through from Savannah Georgia to LI. It wasn't something I thought I would do again but we did hit a lot of traffic. I am somehow hoping there will be less traffic due to what is going on.

I would drive. I don't think I would be able to wear a mask that long.

Re: Which would you say is safer, hotel or a plane

4 of my friends are now in Florida. 3 of the drove and, although it was a long drive, it was fine. 2 of them stopped in Savannah for a night. My friend that flew there told me that the flight was full and she was very stressed out about it. Those that drove went there with a packed car, plus pets, so that was another good thing.

Eta: My friends were stopped getting to Florida at a checkpoint, filled out some forms and were asked to quarantine, but they are not enforcing. One of them was out, I don't know where, celebrating on mothers Day... I didn't want to ask.

I would drive but stop at a hotel if you get tired. Don't worry about the hotel. You can disinfect everything when you get there. Chances are no one was in that room for a while anyway. It's a lot safer to stop at a hotel than to drive tired. I have a family member that dozed off while driving to FL. He's lucky to be alive.

Re: Which would you say is safer, hotel or a plane

I am in Florida going to be driving back to Long Island on Wednesday. Although if I had the choice right now I would fly. Planes take in a ton of outside air on a constant basis. The thing you need to worry about are the surfaces, seats, armrests, tray tables and overhead bins. Wipe them down and you are good.

The drive is LONG and it's tiring (and I don't mind driving). I will probably leave sometime around noon on Wednesday and try to make it up to Virginia by midnight. Stay at a hotel and do the remainder on Thursday.

I drove down because I was going to be down here for two months and I wanted my car vs. renting something. The rest of my family is flying back on Tuesday via Southwest, they cannot handle such a long drive.

Hotel. You can bring your own wipes and bleach and disinfect the hotel room a bit when you arrive as well. Planes are disgusting. On many occasions I would see my plane arrive at the gate and be informed that the crew needs to clean it before we can board. This "cleaning" process seemed to take literally 5 minutes. It didn't keep my from traveling but I always hated knowing how dirty planes were.
