While we sit here and argue over masks and corona
My “snowbird” neighbors tell me that FL is so much happier and open than up here. They said they couldn’t believe the mental state people have been in here because of being locked down for so long.
They also were shocked that people shopping outside for flowers actually had masks on as it makes no sense, you are outside.
It is honestly sad how this has become and you can see it by this board alone.
I hope today that starts the no masks in many places will help open up this area and get people back to some type of normalcy.
Concerts are coming back all over the place and it is just great that we can go back to how it used to be as like I said, other places have been doing this and are so much happier :)

They have family and friends and I guess like to spend the summers here with them. They have a golf cart, a scooter and live in the party place of all time, the Villages so I would never leave

Agree. I am pushing DH almost daily now to make the move down. Forget the mask reason - just calmer pace does it for me. Plus I’m over NY and the people here. I need space and a lot more sunshine

Agree. I am pushing DH almost daily now to make the move down. Forget the mask reason - just calmer pace does it for me. Plus I’m over NY and the people here. I need space and a lot more sunshine
Yup it is just such a slower relaxing life.

And my parents live in FL and say it’s not great down there. Full of a bunch of assholes that don’t believe in science.

We are in the process of buying a condo in Boca for our parents to use and when we were down there in March, Palm County had a mask mandate and it really didn't seem any different than up here. I was told other places didn't have the mask mandate and it was completely normal. The building we are buying in still has Covid restrictions in place but we had our orientation yesterday and they said they expect them to loosen them soon. I don't know if I could do Florida all summer. I had a client in Tampa and spent a few months there over the summer and it was brutal. If we ever move down south I think we will still spend the summers up North at our house in Martha's Vineyard.

Just as an FYI, as I mentioned above, we are in the purchase of buying a condo down there and the Real Estate market is completely bananas. I would wait a year at this point and hopefully it settles down by then. We feel like we are totally overpaying but time is of the essence for us because we are buying it for our parents and they aren't getting any younger.

Sounds like it since they have been more normal since almost the beginning and our numbers have been hiding while we have been locked up.

I guess it all depends on the area but everyone that I know down there lives in places that it is very normal.
Boca is a huge area for older people so maybe they make them be extra cautious as I know the southern part was affected more.
I don’t know if I could (and my hair lol) tolerate the FL summers. Lots of AC.

It’s like AZ. Sooo hot and you basically spend your time going from AC to AC lol. I would pick AZ over FL any day as of course it is dry heat ;)

Yeah we are kicking ourselves that we didn't buy before their real estate market exploded with the mass exodus of 2020. We can't live there yet ,but we should have bought and rented it out until we were ready.
Ah, 20/20 hindsight.

It isn’t for me either. I don’t even mind the heat—it’s just not my kind of place at all.
We have had some lovely short vacations there, but I lived down there for 3 months with DH before we got married and couldn’t wait to leave.

It isn’t for me either. I don’t even mind the heat—it’s just not my kind of place at all.
We have had some lovely short vacations there, but I lived down there for 3 months with DH before we got married and couldn’t wait to leave.
I didn't like anything about it other than the proximity to Disney. lol Wasn't the right lifestyle for me and I didn't really like FL living, there were so many gated communities which felt weird to me. Nice place to vacation but I couldn't live there again.
