Who are you using for Home Owners Insurance? FINAL UPDATE
We currently have it through Traveller's for our co-op but I am open to change. Any suggestions? I need to get a quote for the new house.
Update: I went through Geico and got a quote through Homesite. State Farm was not available in my area. I got a quote for $2000 per year. It seems a bit high to me? I know it is dependent on the house, but I thought it would be a lot less.

I pay way less than that for a house. A co-op should be just insuring the contents since the co-op should be carrying the insurance on the structure.

To clarify this is for a house (not the co-op). It is a 2200 sq ft house - basement not included. I actually called SF instead of going through their website, and got a quote of 1650...so it's getting better!

Our house is about 1700-1800 sq. ft. and we pay $825 for the year.
We were told by our agent/mortage/attorney that we got an incredible rate.

I still think 2k is high or a house. You should try an agency - they can shop rates for you. We used Newbridge coverage in Bellmore they got us the best rates through Interboro

Definitely call a broker !! They sometimes have access to companies and rates that only deal with brokers and not the public. I know a great broker in Wantagh, but he has clients all over LI. FM me if you would like his information!!

Re: Who are you using for Home Owners Insurance? final update!
Just wanted to update in case anyone does a search for insurance. We ended up going with Newbridge and got a quote for $1450 a year with better coverage than SF (higher amount of coverage, better liability and only $5000 deductible on hurricane insurance vs. $15,000).
I highly recommend Anthony there - he was recommended by our mortgage banker. He was great to work with and no pressure. Here is his info in case anyone is interested: 516-781-9000 ext. 118

Re: Who are you using for Home Owners Insurance? FINAL UPDATE
We went through the same thing with my moms house. Many of the big name companies were not writing policies in her area and the ones that did were super expensive. We ended up using a guy at Nationwide Insurance and got the best deal with Interboro Insurance. HTH.
