Who bought or is buying your nursery furniture

DH's parents have offered to buy our nursery furniture for us. They did this for their other grandchildren. While I am extremely grateful to them for this gesture, I feel bad that my parents are not given the opportunity to do so, since this is their first grandchild and my mom said she wanted to buy us something special for the baby. I told her if she really had her hear set on buying furniture then I would ask MIL to maybe split it with my parents. Dh says that its usually the in-laws that buy the baby's furniture. I've never heard this before.

What did you all do/ plan to do?

Both of our parents wanted to get us something special. So his parents are getting us the furniture (really just a crib) and my parents are getting us our stroller and infant car seat. They decided themselves who was going to do what. Never heard about it being the husbands parents that buy furniture.

DH's parents bought the furniture for us.
My parents took care of the shower.

ETA: I never heard that it was the in-laws job either. Mine just decided early on that they wanted to do that for us.

The 1st time around DH's mother bought DD's furniture. This time around I am not sure what we are going to do since we will need 2 cribs but not sure if we will need them right away since they will be in our room for the first few months.

Neither parent has offered.

We plan to purchase the crib and 2 dressers ourselves, plus the conversions.

My parents have offered to purchase the glider & ottoman.

My parents bought us the furniture...
I've never heard of it being the in-laws place to buy it, either.

With my first son, DH's parents bought his crib and my parents bought his dresser. We bought the changing table.

With my second son, we are buying his furniture.

We bought our furniture. My parents have been generous in so many other ways...they through us our shower, they bought the glider and car seats and on and on :)

IL on the other hand are a different story

DH's dad and his wife are. My parents are paying for my shower, plus other gifts.

My dad and sister (my mom is no longer with us) are buying the furniture and my dad is paying for the shower.

DH's mom (his dad is also no longer with us) has not offered to pay for anything. When DH asked if she would like to contribute to the furniture she said she would rather buy us something off the registry. That was after she asked how much and my DH said whatever you want to contribute...a few hundred or something...and she was like no and went on a rant about how she doesn't have the kind of money that my dad has and blah, blah, blah. So now anytime my dad does something for us DH doesn't mention it to his mom because he doesn't want her to feel bad and doesn't want to hear the rant again.

I have also never heard that the IL's was the ones to pay for the furniture.

We bought our own. No need to split it - why can't one family buy the furniture, the other buy everything else that's still needed (stroller, baby carrier, car seat, etc.). There's still a lot of things needed (as I'm learning to my budgeting nightmare...)

My Dh's father and step mother bought us the crib and changing table. His Mom,sisters,Grandma, aunt & cousin bought us the other dresser. My mom bought me the pack n play and the shower with the help of everyone. Theres no rule as to who is supposed to buy you what (its not even the parents or Inlaws responsibility) or does anyone have to buy it for you. We were just blessed that they all offered

my ILs bought the crib and crib mattress, but the rest of the furniture was my childhood furniture and for being over 20 yrs old, it's in great shape!

Aren't both sides considered in-law's??? Which side does he mean?

In any event, i've never ever heard of this.


I'm going to assume we will be buying the furniture... no one has mentioned otherwise. There is a small chance that maybe DH's parents will chip in... but I'm not counting on it. Not that they wouldn't I just like to account for everything I might have to spend so I'm not off monitarily.
