Thank you everyone for your feedback.

I can't believe how ridiculous this must sound. I thought it over myself and told my mom that since she will ultimately be paying for the baby shower, that maybe she would like to buy the bassinet and/or rocker. I feel like a bassinet is a little more of a sentimental item since it can get passed down. She seemed to like that idea.

I think my DH likes to make stuff up as he goes along . Clearly there is no set rule as to who has the "rights" to nursery furniture purchasing.

We fully intended to buy the furniture. However, my FIL bought the glider as a present, and DH's grandma wanted to buy the crib as a baby shower gift! Very very lucky because it saved us a lot of money.

ETA: As for a changing table, we are going to use a piece of furniture we already own. Also, isn't going to have a dresser for a year or so because she has a gigantic walk-in closet with lots of storage compartments...spoiled already .

Dh's parents bought the furniture for my DD.

My dad bought my crib (my mom is deceased and after finding out I was pregnant my dad said he would by the crib as it is what my mom would do)

My brother bought my Changing table

My other brother and SIL bought my glider

My ILs bought the bedding and LOTS of accessories... and I would say technically they bought all the dressers as they were DHs from his childhood!

Love the bassinet idea!!

The bassinet my DS slept in and now DC #2 will be in is passed down in DHs family.

His 6 cousins, him, 2 brothers, 8 of those now adults children and I think a few more have all used this basinnet. Its 40+ years old! I love sentimental things!!!!

My parents bought all the furniture when I was pregnant with DS. And this time we are having twins, they bought the second crib to our set.

If my parents didn't offer we would have bought it. My ILs are really in no financial situation to even offer.

My dad and step mom bought us the whole bedroom set.

My mom bought us the pack n play and a ton of other wonderful things.

DH's parents would NEVER in a zillion years spend that kind of money on us. I mean EVER. Not even PnP money. His mom got me a towel and set of washcloths for a shower present. That's just how they are.

I wouldn't worry about who buys what. It's going to be special no matter what it is they buy you and whomever buys it for you.

My parents bought the Bellini crib and his parents bought the Bugaboo stroller. They were both super generous beyond our expectation.

My parents and my in laws were very generous and basically split it between them. We only bought the glider.

DH's parents bought us the crib and mattress.

DH and I bought the changing table and dresser.
