Yes he woke up... maybe that's why Im so annoyed by it. Im 99% sure it was just something stupid not something important that couldn't wait till morning.

Re: Who calls someones house at 9:40PM when they have small children
I don't think 9:40pm is super early - 10pm is my cutoff for calling a friend now. 9pm is my cutoff for calling an acqutaince. 8pm is my cutoff for calling a pregnant friend who's husband has a toddler bedtime.
I would rather get phone calls when they're sleeping so I don't have the constant interruptions.
Ah the good old days in college where my friends & I used to call each other at 3am because we need to procrastinate studying.

Karen - you have to be laughing that your phone call has turned into a 2 page post.

I agree with everything...except the 3am studying part...3am calls were made after the bar

Everyone I know calls me on my cell phone now after 8pm because we live in a tiny one bedroom apartment and YES, the phone absolutely wakes up Ava. And you know what they say about never waking a sleeping baby....

I just can't believe that everyone thinks that 9:30pm is like 5 or 6 pm to call someone. Everyone in my house, besides me since I like the peace, is asleep usually by 9pm. If you need to get a hold of me and it's reallllllllly important than call but to call for something stupid and call back like 4 days later and not leave a message, which tells me it's not important, when you know DH and small kids are asleep is rude on her part!

Re: Who calls someones house at 9:40PM when they have small children
There was definitely a point in my life when 9:40 was early. Not anymore. 9:40 is when I wish I was getting into bed now! So, depending on your lifestyle, I think it's either ok or not to call at that time. So basically, everyone's right in terms of themselves

For having the DH who gets up at 4 am, which she knows about, having 2 kids under 5, which she knows about, and not liking phone calls after 9 unless it's an emergency, which she knows about I dont think I am overreacting. In my little slice of the world you don't call someones house after 9pm unless it's necessary.

Re: Who calls someones house at 9:40PM when they have small children
I don't think oiu are overracting karen, everyone has different standards, nothing wrong with that, I know I would be pisst if my kids were woken up because of the phone, us Moms know how difficult it can be to get them to sleep, so an unecessary phone call would make me annoyed as well. Hope Jeremy and Emma have a good night sleep.

Re: Who calls someones house at 9:40PM when they have small children
I wouldn't be annoyed at 9:40pm, thats kinda early for - but anyone can call me at anytime if they need to talk.
However you can't hear the phone in my sons room when it rings, I missed a call tonight putting him to bed. And thats 4 phones with 2 lines LOL.
There is only one friend that I call at 11pm on a Friday occasionally to chat with, we are both up, kids are in bed and like Barbara said the only time to get a word in without interruption.

Re: Who calls someones house at 9:40PM when they have small children
I can understand your annoyance at this situation. I do not get home from work until 7pm every night and have a strict policy with friends/family that they are NOT to call me until 9. I do not want to get home and immediately start chatting away about nothing in particular. I do not and will not answer my phone during this time. I have friends who do not seem to understand this and they call and call and call. I simply do not pick up.
It's not the fact that 9:40 is too late/too early, it's your preference and your friends and family should try to respect the way you feel.

I don't mind friends/family....on occasion. I had pictured you meant a business call at that time. Then, yes, I get a little peeved. That and before 8AM. Especially at 5:30AM>

I don't have kids so I might eat my words some day,but I don't think 9:40 is too late.
9:40 isnt late for me but if anyone is calling after 9pm or before 9am someone better be dead or in dire need of my help.
I'm with you on that!!!!!

Same here. Maybe I'm ignorant, or insensitive ,but I wouldn't think twice about calling someone at 9:40.

Re: Who calls someones house at 9:40PM when they have small children
I hear where you are coming from, but I usually tell people to call me after 9 when they are in bed because its the only quiet time I can actually toalk to them.
What bothers me is the people who call before 9 a.m.!! they think because I have 2 kids I am up at the crack of dawn, but my household is asleep until at least 9 a.m. and a phone ringing that early in the morning pizzes me off!

8pm is my cutoff for calling a pregnant friend who's husband has a toddler bedtime.
I wonder who this is
I rarely talk to my friends on the phone now... if I can fit in one phone call a week to three people it's a miracle because of when we go to bed. I'm only up now because the twins are hungry
A few years ago I would have to look at the clock before I called. One of my friends wanted me to call her later because she said that was the only time she could talk, maybe that is what this woman is assuming.
I would just ask her nicely not to call past a certain hour. If she's not told she'll continue to call.
