Wow! Where was this pic taken?
I'm in Lindenhurst. We had power up until last night when a tree trimmer blew out a transformer on my block. As of right now, I don't think it is on yet. I have been checking the LIPA website and it seems that a lot has been restored.

Re: who doesnt have power still??

I have been without power since Saturday evening... still without power and I am absolutely LIVID over this. I am not even in an area that was hit hard (like the south shore). I am in the Plainview/Old Bethpage area.
LIPA is going to pay for this.
Anyone that was affected by this storm for more than 24 hours should call LIPA and ask for the claim form to get reinbursed for stuff like perishable food you lost.
LIPA already told me they won't pay out any claims on this as they are considering it an "act of god". The woman didn't even want to send me the claim form and I had to demand her to send it. I really don't care. I demanded they send me the form so when they deny my claim, I have written proof that I tried to work it out amicably with them and i'll file suit.
The more people that submit claim forms (so LIPA can deny them), the more notice the media will take on this and evil LIPA.
I don't even care if I file suit and lose the case in court, i'll make them eat their attorney fees. I can see if I was in an area that had a down tree fell on my house or even in my area. But we had no such crazy damage. No blocked roads. No downed lines.
I'd have more sympathy if I CHOSE to use LIPA (like I CHOOSE to use Cablevision). Long Islanders as customers have NO CHOICE regarding who we can use for electric. We pay some of the HIGHEST RATES in the nation (close to 20 cents a kWh). And this is the kind of service we get? We barely had a storm touch down at 70mph gusts and we have this kind of "severe outage"?
I laugh at LIPA who compares this storm to hurricane Gloria. Are you kidding me? Gloria was 115MPH plus wind category 3 hurricane. This storm didn't even qualify to be named.
Curious. How many lawsuits have you filed?
I'm just amazed at how often you mention suing someone.

This is South 1st in Lindenhurst, just North or Reade. My brother is south of there and had power. I'm north of the RR off Wellwood (near where the HUGE tree fell across Wellwood) and had no power for about 5 hours on Saturday.

Re: who doesnt have power still??
wow - I guess the south shore really got hit! We usually have at least a tree or large limb down in our yars in minor storms...I was surprised that not much happened in my neighborhood.
I'm on the north shore and while I remember the power being out for 5 days from Gloria - I remember the worst part of it was that the LILCO president refused to end his vacation in Italy to deal with the situation.
I hope everyone is back up soon.

parts of seaford are back, my mom and brother are back BUT they live on the same line (I dont know what you call it) as the 7th precinct. Theirs is the first to come back My aunt lives around the block from the 7th precient. All the (horse named streets) off of locust had no power but locust had power, Waverly had no power yesterday.

So far... three.
Frankly it's really the only way you actually get things done with companies that refuse to cooperate. And I have had great success with it in the past.
People say... complain to BBB... complain to the Attorney General.... complain to Consumer Affairs. It's all rubbish. The only way you really see action is in the courts.

Re: who doesnt have power still??
I am in Bohemia and have not had power since 2:30pm on Saturday. It si my block that is out, the surrounding blocks have power and never lost it. There are no trees down on lines, but we heard thru the grapevine that a transformer on our blckc blew, but I really have no clue what that all means, LOL.
We decided to finally find a place to stay after we woke up and the temp in the house was 56. Hopefully we won't have to be out of the house for long. The recordings when I call Lipa say that "most" should be back by Tuesday. I just would like to know if I am in the "most" category or the severe category. I am sure my area is a low prioroty since it is not that many customers in my area without power. It sucks, but it is what it is, and I would never think of suing them for a storm.

yea i can't see putting a lawsuit down for a storm but that is me. I would just have a huge BBQ or something and invite everyone to eat (my parents did that during gloria) - i mean how much food can you stock up unless you have multi fridges?

I don't understand though- WHAT do you expect LIPA to do? There is no little man behind the green curtain who is purposely keeping the power out.
I live in Maryland where we were SLAMMED with back to back snowstorms. e don't get that kind of weather here. It took a long time for the state to get things up and running again. Like LI, we had to get help from other states to get the job done.
Frivilous lawsuits are a waste or time and taxpayers money......

This makes NO SENSE AT ALL. "Refuse to cooperate" with WHAT???? This storm was most definitely an act of God, so if you are looking for someone to blame THAT'S who you should be suing. A lawsuit for this is RIDICULOUS. *And I say this as one of the QUEENS residents who lost power for 9 DAYS!! 9 DAYS!!!! In the SUMMER of 2006. Under pressure ConEd issued rebates for food spoilage etc (around $2-300, I forget) - and that was done after they admitted FAULT for lack of proper maintenance in my neighborhood's power system.

We have power, but we woke up this morning to no water. We had a water main break in the area.
where do you live? our water pressure was very low this am?
There was a water main break right by the firehouse and PC Richards in Middle Island.

There are thousands of people out there with downed power lines, trees on houses and blocking roads etc that i'm sure they've had to prioritize what they work on first. I read that they've got people on 16 hour shifts and have had people come in from upstate to help out.
This has to be the most selfish whiny thing i've heard in a long time

My thoughts exactly - grow up and stop getting your knickers all twisted just because a storm inconvenienced you. Maybe if you'd been prepared with a generator you would not have to worry about spoiled food. There are worse things in life to worry about. I don't ever recall seeing where LIPA guarantees 100% delivery of power 24/7 no matter what happens. Maybe your power outage was caused by an out of control car that knocked out a pole when they skidded in the rain and wind - are you going to sue the driver too?

Re: who doesnt have power still??
LIPA is working in Lindenhurst - my parents block and on the block behind us. They said tonight if not tomorrow morning they will have the power back. They have been working since Saturday non-stop, crew at my parents are from Canada (very hot Canadian men - actually grabbed a beer and sat out on the porch and watched them for a bit) anyway they are doing the best they can. I offered them coffee but they said they would be yelled at if they stopped because people are scrutinizing their every action.

I'm confused by your original rant.
You mentioned you don't care if you lose the case you will just make them eat the attorney fees. Why would you waste your time, their time the courts time on something like this? It wasn't their fault. From what I see on the news, LIPA is working their a$$es off trying to get everyone up and running again. Is it just the frustration that's making you do this? Is it that you didn't have enough damage to justify no electricity? Would you not be thinking of suing if you had a tree through your roof? Or through your neighbors roof? Would really prefer to have damage in the area?
I'm really trying to understand you're reasoning here. And I just can't

ITA and well stated.
It was a STORM! Deal with it. Yes it sucks that power is out, but really all of your "demands" are ridiculous.
If you read these boards you will see people in far worse situations then you are, and they are in fairly good spirits about it.
