My parents live in Sag Harbor and their power got restored this morning around 11.
I have ben constantly thinking about you guys in NY without power.
OMG that's crazy cuz mom and dad didn't lose anything and they're across the street!!
My sister is in Port Washington and she hasn't had power, cable, heat, phone, anything since Sat.....as of tonight, nothing still

I didn't pass the bar but I am pretty sure there are no grounds for a lawsuit
It was a storm--what could LIPA do about trees ripping out of the ground?

Anyone that was affected by this storm for more than 24 hours should call LIPA and ask for the claim form to get reinbursed for stuff like perishable food you lost.
LIPA already told me they won't pay out any claims on this as they are considering it an "act of god". The woman didn't even want to send me the claim form and I had to demand her to send it. I really don't care. I demanded they send me the form so when they deny my claim, I have written proof that I tried to work it out amicably with them and i'll file suit.
The more people that submit claim forms (so LIPA can deny them), the more notice the media will take on this and evil LIPA.
I don't even care if I file suit and lose the case in court, i'll make them eat their attorney fees. I can see if I was in an area that had a down tree fell on my house or even in my area. But we had no such crazy damage. No blocked roads. No downed lines.
I'd have more sympathy if I CHOSE to use LIPA (like I CHOOSE to use Cablevision). Long Islanders as customers have NO CHOICE regarding who we can use for electric. We pay some of the HIGHEST RATES in the nation (close to 20 cents a kWh). And this is the kind of service we get? We barely had a storm touch down at 70mph gusts and we have this kind of "severe outage"?
I laugh at LIPA who compares this storm to hurricane Gloria. Are you kidding me? Gloria was 115MPH plus wind category 3 hurricane. This storm didn't even qualify to be named.
LIPA is going to pay for what? Did they purposely cut the power to your house? Did their negligence cause you to lose power?

Acting as if you're the only person without power and DEMANDING a rebate form right now is a waste of LIPA's time. There are thousands of people out there with downed power lines, trees on houses and blocking roads etc that i'm sure they've had to prioritize what they work on first. I read that they've got people on 16 hour shifts and have had people come in from upstate to help out.
This has to be the most selfish whiny thing i've heard in a long time

It was a STORM! Deal with it. Yes it sucks that power is out, but really all of your "demands" are ridiculous.
If you read these boards you will see people in far worse situations then you are, and they are in fairly good spirits about it.

My SMIL was out from Saturday am until 1am this morning (Monday) and she has $10k worth of damage to her basement and since it damage to her HOUSE, she will go through homeowners insurance.
I can't believe that you'd want to reimbursed for a gallon of milk? Keep the freezer closed and you'd be fine most likely, it is MARCH, not JULY!
Furthermore, since is isn't hurricane season, they don't name the storms

It was so weird, they lost it, the guys across the street, their next door neighbors and the peiople next to them, the old Dominski's house had it! crazy!

I did pass the bar and am an attorney and also think there are really no grounds. Not only would this in all likelihood get thrown out of court but the PLaintiff would probably have to eat their legal fees AND the counterparty's.
Even though I am an attorney I have never sued anyone nor have I ever had a reason to (neither personally nor professionally as I am not a litigator). I find the suggestion of suing LIPA over this, frankly, disgusting.

It's best to just ignore ave's frequent tirades about suing people and his frequent, yet pretty much always uninformed and inaccurate, "legal" advice. I think this thread illustrates why...

Just wanted to report--as of 5pm today -- we got power back in our apartment!
However, I will be filing suit against the Easter Bunny, the Leprechaun from Lucky Charms, and of course the big guy upstairs....and I really do mean the big guy upstairs--my neighbor is ginormous.
SOMEONE MUST PAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WTH is wrong with people? is power that important to us? I am sorry I really would give two POOPS if i lost power for a few days. Yea is it inconvenient but get over it - your alive.

I'm still out in Lindenhurst. I really hope it comes back on today. I'm trying to be patient and understanding but I hate being dislocated from my house. If I had heat, I could deal without the power but I can't stay without heat. I just want to sleep in my own bed and use my own shower.
