Who ever find the first tooth buys the first pair of shoes..
Someone was telling me about this tradition yesterday. She was the aunt and was buying the shoes. Very cute tradition.. but, I don't understand how it works. I mean, aren't the parents always the first ones to find a tooth? Does it not include parents? Do they not tell anyone when the tooth comes in and wait for someone to find it?
Maybe I am looking into this too much.  I loved the idea but, I am just trying to figure it out! Thanks!

My grandmother used to say that and anytime she was around a baby she had her finger in their mouth trying to feel the tooth before it cut through the gums. Everyone knew she wanted to get the first shoes so bad, it was cute.

My family does this. My mom "found" his first tooth. So she insisted on buying him his shoes. Who am i to tell her no? I let her have her grandma moment.

This was my grandma also. I think she had her finger in my DD's mouth everytime she saw her for like a month
At least it made her happy!

same here. Except she found her tooth weeks ago and i'm still waiting on those shoes lol

We do this too - my mom and grandma constantly are putting their fingers in DDs mouth to find a tooth lol. My mom said if you find it, pretend you don't see it bc someone else has to buy the shoes
Its supposed to be their first pair but DD is 8 months and no teeth yet and trying to walk, so mommy and daddy are probably just going to buy the shoes

My MIL always used to tell me about that tradition.
But DH and I wound up buying DS's first pair of walkers. I think I found his first tooth anyway.

I think my MIL felt around and claimed she felt the first tooth, but I bought the shoes. I'm sure I would have been the first one to see the first tooth.

I never heard of this! Cute tradition. I wonder if I went back to me pediatrican they would reimburse me for the cost of DD's shoes, since the ped was the first to find DD's first tooth!

Actually its my BIL in this this fam, he mentioned that he saw the teeth,,,well MIL said than you have to buy the first shoes, now he is asking us what size he is LOL

We do this too. For my oldest I had 2 cousins fighting over who found it first. l DS got two pairs of sneakers that month.
I think it's a cute and fun tradition.
