Who knew 7-11 was a "meet" market? (Unnecessarily long account of today's coffee experience)
Every once in a while, I troll into 7-11 - mainly when I run out of half and half and cant make my coffee at home. I enter the store and I am rather focused:
1. Grab the 16 oz cup 2. Open and dispense two packets of Sweet-n-Low artificial sweetner. 3. Fill cup 1/3 of the way with half and half. 4. Fill the rest of the cup with hazelnut coffee. 5. Pay 6. Leave
Note that no eye contact is made with anyone - I am not a chatty morning person. I hate people like that. So basically I am purposely unaware of my surroundings and I like it that way.
However, as I am pouring the above said half and half, I detect a voice that says "Hello ma'am. How are you doing today." I did not flinch. I did not turn. It was like Muzak - you hear it, but it is of no musical value or quality. The voice then becomes more audible and I hear "Ma'am you look very beautiful today." I lift my head, take notice of my surroundings - I am the only woman in the store. Oh great.
So this nice young 23-25 (my best estimation) year old young man has my attention. I said "thank you" and proceeded to speed up my coffee pouring process. I thought I was free and clear when he said "So are you married? Single? Divorced?" To which I replied "VERY MARRIED." I almost followed it by saying "...to a big guy who plays football and could pulverize you in seconds." but decided this could prompt further and uncomfortable confrontation and I was not prepared to defend myself either verbally or otherwise so I let it be. Sadly, he was on line before me and they were slow at the 7-11 today.
I was dressed in jeans, sneakers, and a blue hoodie - hardly sexy in any way, but hey, my make up was fresh, so maybe he thought I was "good to go." The young man was rather polite. However, I wished I was awake and quick enough to inform him that if he thought that perhaps he stood a chance with me (not knowing I was married of course) that using "ma'am" to address a lady you wish to get to know is not the way to do it.
Who are these people? 6:45 in the morning and you are looking to hook up? I guess I am really out of touch or he was rejected by e-harmony.

you could have always showed him your coffee and asked him "what can you make of this?"

I do not think he was born when AIRPLANE came out. What would be the point?

Truth be told, I think DH would have laughed his arse off if he saw this. I so do not have a jealous husband. It would have been entertaining.

Re: Who knew 7-11 was a "meet" market? (Unnecessarily long account of today's coffee experience)
that is hysterical
i always find myself getting hit on when i am in that type of situation- completely unaware and- most of the time- i'm wearing little to no make up, sweats or jeans, t-shirt/sweatshirt, etc. it ALWAYS happens that way and i'm always shocked when it does.
then, i can go ALL out and deck myself out in the nicest pair of tight dark denim jeans, high sexy heels, tight shirt, do my hair, make up, the 9's... and get NOTHING. how does that happen?
yet, the "i have not showered yet and am just running to the gym with my hair pulled back look" really gets the men going! W T F?!

Never knew, I know most of the regulars are friendly with the coffe station attendant, but to each other? It's pre-caffine, I'm not that friendly pre-caffine!

Leslie, now come on.... as my Dad used to say, "You might not want to go to the party, but it's nice to be invited."
So would this make you a "cougar"? Considering he was a bit younger.

I envy you because if I go to the 7-11 that early, its all day laborers in there and I get stares, but they are talking to each other in a language I do not know!
