Today on Oprah... 75 tons of junk in there house...
Good show today on Oprah about those that hoard stuff. And the family on today had 75 tons of junk in a 3000 square foot house.

I once cleaned out a friend's house that was similar to that.
It was not as bad but it was about a 3,500 square foot house and out of say fifteen rooms... about half of them were in the condition of the house on oprah.
It took me about 10 days of STRAIGHT work with one helper to clean it all out... well, also with the help of about EIGHT-TEN (lost count) huge dumpsters.

Hopefully finding the things they found at the bottom of some of the piles will keep her from doing it again....
I think her DC are going to have to make routine random visits to make sure it stays clean from now on. DH won't notice because it happens gradually, but if her kids stop by every once in a while, it will be obvious to them if it's starting again.

I give that woman a lot of credit. First, for admitting she has a problem and allowing her kids to get her help, but also for doing it on national televison for all to see. That takes guts! I hope she can keep it clean when they are done. I love Peter and watch Clean Sweep all the time.

No joke - my stepdaughters' mom lives like that - they can't even sleep in their own bedrooms because its too messy and they don't clean - the girls sleep on the couch....

They can - but why would they if their mom lives like that? Who are they learning from? I get on their a s s es when they are here with us, but because its something they are unaccustomed to, its not something they would naturally do....

I love Clean Sweep !! It's amazing how these people can let junk over take their house and their lives. I like how he always tries to connect with them about why they're letting this happen. Whenever I decide to keep something DH says "fine, I'll put it in the forever box !" then tells me he's going to 'get that show' after me !!

When they had all the stuff in the warehouse, they said there were 3000 pair of shoes and 3000 handbags. He estimated $60k for all of that. I'm thinking it would be much more than $10/item. That was just two or so tables. Plus there was stuff under every table. I'm guessing the total amount she spent was approaching $1 million. 
Plus, she kept 5%, donated some of it, and threw away some of it.

My grandparents are like that. The problem is my father and mother will clean their house and it will just go back to that. They both have alzheimers and it is very scary! They go to Bj's every week and spend over 400 on food that they never eat!
