Laces was the cool one where I WANTED to have my birthday parties. My mom always booked Hot Skates. (Don't even remember where that was.) Of course... I was also terrible at skating. I have no idea why she insisted I do it on my birthday every year...

LACES is now ICELAND which used to be SKATELAND before it was LACES. I prefer blades to wheels. But I did learn how to play Centipede there.

I remember both of the Laces rinks. I was a rink rat and I skated almost every day. I remember cleaning that grayish combo of floor wax, chewing gum and kids' sweat off my wheels after every weekend! My first "hand holding" was a public display at Laces in E-NPT and we all talked about it in school for a whole week after that!
Unfortunately, I also remember that the kid who was killed in the park in Northport (a famous story now) was someone I saw almost daily at the rink.

Do you mean the roach clip???
I never made the connection that those things were anything other than decoration. Had NO idea what a roach was.
