who to call for dryer vent issues?

Would this be a plumber or someone else? Right now I have a dryer and it is set up to vent out of our crawlspace. I would like to to vent outside (and switch to a gas dryer as well) but the nearest outside wall would be 20 feet away, and I heard that it is 1- bad to have a duct that long and 2- bad to put it behind sheetrock. Anyone know who I would call in this instance for some professional advice?

general contractor...

we have our dryer vent behind Sheetrock.. been that way for years... no issues.. we do move the dryer away from the wall and use a leaf blower to clean out the pipe once a year or so...

Gas dryer=if you don't have a line for gas dryer, you'll need a plumber. I had one quote me for that a few years back and it was like $1000 (I have gas in my house already). I said forget it. I'll just use electric because then I would also need a new machine on top of that $1000.

Venting part: Why can't you do this yourself? I did it a few years ago. And 20 feet is really too far to vent. And venting into a crawlspace is not a good idea. Moisture and all. Can you move the machine closer to a exterior wall to vent it out?

I could move it closer to the exterior wall but then that would be a problem trying to move the washer with the pipes, drain, etc across the room. They would also be near my utilities which are along the outside wall so not sure if this will be a problem. I have a feeling this is going to cost me a lot of money Chat Icon

The Dryer Vent: not a big deal... Use a 3- 4" solid pipe. If you have crawl space right below your floor... You could possibly cut a hole on the floor "tight to the wall" and pipe it between the joist "The things that hold the floor up." to the outside. 20' is not a big deal but make sure you use sold duct and use as little bends as possible. Material cost: Duct $30 Outside vent $15 Strapping" to hole the Duct to the joist" $3 Cheap Jig saw tool $40

Gas: Call an HVAC guy. They are lic for gas and deal with it everyday. A Plumber.....?
