Who's up for the challenge of finding me a new haircut!

I need a new look! I feel that no matter what I do...I always wind up with the same look (either just a shorter or longer version of the same exact thing).

My hair is naturally curly and I have no patience to straighten it everyday, so I want to keep it curly. I need help finding a cut that I can actually pull off on a daily basis.

Not the best picture, but here is the most recent picture that I have of myself

i dont have any advice, but i feel your pain. Whether my hair is down past my waiste, or just above my shoulders, it always ends up in the same style- pulled back in a messy bun out of my face.

Sorry this wasn't a more useful response... i just wanted to let you know that i feel your pain! Chat Icon Chat Icon

I think the only way to get a different look is to either straighten it (JHS or something), or blow it out (or flat iron). If you do layers, then you won't really see it because of all the curls.

Did you ever think about going real short? I think you would look great!Chat Icon

i vote something like this!!! but youre probably going to have to change the products you use in your hair and how you style it. this is a 'softer' curl so maybe a cream would work better vs. a gel or mouse.

I think you would look great with a shorter haircut. Here are some of the ones I've been looking into, which might interest you.

Re: Who's up for the challenge of finding me a new haircut!

I have super curley hair also ---- and I don't blow it out --- EVER. It has been blown out maybe 5 times in the past 10 years. I don't have the patience for it. I am also not willing to get JHS. I LIKE my curls.

I have a shorter cut then you. I will see if I can find some pictures. My hair has layers ----- some of them are like long bang size, and then go longer from there.

I think something shoulder length would look great on you --- with some layers. Then with a good product (I wouldn't even recommend one, everyone's hair is different) that helps to define the curls, it could look so cool.

Also I think some chunky highlights or lowlights would look good. I find that when they do them "chunky" on me it looks better curley because you get whole curles that are another color. Since my hair is very curley I've found that the color adds a lot of dimension to my hair.

I think this kind of medium length, layered, no bangs look could work for you.

Re: Who's up for the challenge of finding me a new haircut!

I have long curly hair - Here are my suggestions:

1. DO NOT cut it short YET. I personally can't wear my hair short at all .......but everyone is different. - I'd suggest first learning how to work with and tame your natural curls - ESPECIALLY if you want something no fuss, you have to work a bit harder with a shorter style. Experiment with products - try the Deva line of products they are AMAZING !!

2. Lose the bangs and you will immediately have a different 'look' -
Find a stylist that works well with curly hair, add some layers esp. around your face - You just need a good haircut and you'll see a major difference - It's not really about the style when you have very curly hair, it's more about how your hair falls and you need a good cut for that .........

I have gone to Katherine @ Maximus in Westbury and she was fabulous for me for years ........I recently went to a guy named Steven at Zeba in Woodbury - he gave me an Ok cut, but I wasn't happy with the way it grew in . - Now I'm going to Luciana @ Devachan in Soho ........I have heard Ana is the best, but it takes 2 months to get an appointment w/ her

Good Luck !!

i know this was done with a curling iron.. it was just a point in a certain direction. i wish it was easy for hair to look this good. Chat Icon by the look of the picture the op provided it looks like a gel is used and probably a difusser to dry it. i used to have crazy curly hair (hormones change every 7 years and it has been straight for the past few years-- im finally getting some curl back tho! thank god!)

i used to put in a heavy duty leave in conditioner right after i got out of the shower and comb it through - sometimes i would just use regular conditioner and leave it in even though it wasnt leave in. then i would put in a straightening lotion - to clam the curls and let it dry for a bit in a towel on the top of my head. then i would use a curl cream and i would get softer curls. also, from my own experience, my curls are less intense when my hair was short.

just remember if you plan on going short it might be a pain in the summer if you just want to throw it up one day. but ita agree with pp and lose the bangs.. and go to a person that knows how to cut curly hair they will be able to thin it and layer it specifically for the texture of your hair! good luck!! You definitly need more layers to show the curl more and I also think growing out your bangs would give you a different look. Another thing that I noticed with me at least was that the shorter I went (pre-pregnancy) the looser the curl was. Now, after my 2 kids I don't have curly hair at all.

I also agree with try different products. I had tried so many things and my hair was curly like one of the pictures marisak posted and I loved Paul Mitchell Medium hold. It has the green apple on it. No matter how much gel I used it never got stiff and it really gave me a nice curl. Also, when ever I would dry it I made sure to use a diffuser. If I didn't it just looked like a big nest.

I would definately get the bangs blended. It will give you an entirely new look.

Maximus in westbury is great.
