Why are men so stupid? sorry it's a little long.
So DH went to play poker last night (which was fine with me) and apparently decided at midnight when he got home that instead of going to bed, he would wait up for Lucas' next feeding. He woke up at 2am, I woke up and realized (b/c I had heard him come home) that DH was not in bed and stumbled out to find him feeding him. AWESOME, I got some water and went back to bed. I hear screaming a few minutes later. ugh.
It's now 3am. I ask DH why he's screaming and still awake at 3. His answer? Maybe his diaper is dirty. Um... I ask him again and point out he's not trying to change him,he's holding him. He says to me: he was hiccuping.
OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OK...this is my 2nd baby, DH's first (I have a 6 year old). I give him the best advice I can...I tell him the best ways to do the late night feedings (no lights, no tv/music....) and I tell him verbatim what the dr. says (such as hiccups are perfectly NORMAL and nothing to worry about). I also finally bought a crib wedge so he's elevated (so the spitting up should be a little less of a fear for DH). Why do I tell him this??? Because I've been there...I've been naive enough to change a sleeping baby, pick a baby up too soon when they're crying and regretted it. I'm not making stuff up, I'm offering him an advantage many first timers don't get...BTDT wisdom.
But no.....he continues to try to make the bottles AFTER changing him and bringing him into bright lights and reacting to hiccups like the child is going to keel over. So now thanks to the brillance that is my husband, I've pretty much been awake since 2am. Oh and we're supposed to go out tonight for our anniversary, yeah, that ain't happening!
Oh and to add insult to injury, as I'm making a new bottle at 3am (as it wound up being the only way to calm the kid down), he asks: why don't these bottles fit in the warmer??? (I had to switch to some wider bottles) I showed him how to lift up a plastic ring and dropped it in. His reaction: that's stupid. I nearly lost it. I told him that he's a well educated man, I figured he could figure it out on his own. Does this mean he fed the poor boy COLD formula an hour earlier?
Feel free to add your own story...I'm sure I'm not the only one married to Einstein.
OK...I feel better at least.

Re: Why are men so stupid? sorry it's a little long.
I can relate except that this is my first child and I seem to just "get it" more than DH does. I so look forward to Friday and Saturday nights b/c DH doesn't have to work and can help me with night duty. Well, it's pointless. He can NOT get our child to sleep, so I end up hearing him struggle with her for HOURS and I end up going in and getting her back to sleep myself. This morning at 3am I was walking her around our house in my arms and DH goes, "that's stupid. she's going to want to be held all the time." UM she is 2.5 weeks old!!!!! I said, "It's working isn't it? Your approach apparently isn't."
UGH!!!!!!!!! It's like they try to be helpful but they are just NOT.

Re: Why are men so stupid? sorry it's a little long.
Mine is working a night shift, 6pm-2am and he gets home at 3am. He without fail gets me up around 3am, Christopher wakes up around 5am and no matter WHAT even if DH is awake still he doesn't get up with him!
Last night, we all were up at 5am and DH just laid in bed. I got so annoyed b/c DS is 10 weeks old and not ONCE since the first night we were home has DH gotten up with him. AND he will be off Mon-Thurs this week and he STILL won't get up with him b/c that is "his time off to rest". A$$ you sleep TEN HOURS A NIGHT!
Sorry if I am bitter. I am really tired this morning.

Make him get up with him!! I realized they will never volunteer to help. When I say "go in with her" he gets up no problem but if I don't say anything . I would def make a point of it now because DH was the best help in the beginning and now it's becoming more like 95% me, 5% him and it gets so frustrating.
ETA: I think we just "get it" more because they don't "do it" enough to figure out what works best.Chat Icon Chat Icon
