Why can *some* men be so stupid? (and not necessarily the men that frequent this site because if they are on LIF of course they are smart)
So I made a dermatologist appointment for DH a few weeks back, and they called me to confirm. They said he needed a referral, so I called DH to tell him to get one. He said,"Oh well, I'm not concerned. We'll pay it out of pocket." I told him it was probably going to be over $100, and he said that was fine.
Yes, because we're made out of money and can afford to spend $100 on something that should cost $10.  I called the dermatologist back, and it's actually $200, so now DH is forced to get a referral.
I don't know what he is thinking

I'm sorry, are you livign w/ my husband ?? 
Mine has the EXACT same attitiude, but then if I come home w/ shoes tells me we need to 'save money' .......

Like most men, he wasn't thinking. That's the problem. Men! If it wasn't for women, they wouldn't be able to find their behinds with two hands and a flashlight.

I would, but he's never been to his primary care physician (temp doc since we're living in MD), and so they will have to see him before he gets a referral.

Plan B - Make him an appointment.
I know it is the single most frustrating thing to deal w/ b/c believe me I deal w/ it on a regular basis - And it SHOULDN"T be your responsibility - But it's not fair for you to be watching your spending while he does something stupid like that and just completely wastes money .......- My DH would do the EXACT same thing - He's the guy to strolls into Brooks Brothers and buys a wardrobe without even thinking to look at the price tag - Meanwhile, I don't buy ANYTHING that's not on sale ......... -

Oh no, I set him straight. He's making it now. After I told him $200, he realized THAT was too much to pay out of pocket.
BUT had it just been $100, he would have paid!

I get that too..honey put the money in the bank account..

Thurs: I really need you to go to the bank..
Friday: never mind I'll do it myself..
I guess paying the bills on time is not a priority. If he handled the money it would be.
Oh, but I bought a few dresses I needed...WTH!!!! he says..no wonder we have no money!
Yep, let the late fees accrue..no problem. And now that $25 parking ticket you got is now $100...

The funny thing is, my DH takes care of most of the money.
Oh and update: he made the appointment for Wed so he'll get the referral and they will apply it retroactively.

jesus - he was willing to pay $100 for something he could get for $10?
and getting late fees on bills is just laziness IMO - no need for that
i pay them the weekend they come in

He was trying to save the $15 co-pay that he needs to pay to his primary doctor to get the referral, so it really does make sense.....  
Then, what if the PCP found out that DH's cholesterol is too high, and his blood pressure is too high. Then he would have to pay copays for medicine for the rest of his life. He's just looking at the bigger picture....
