Why can't you wear contacts during labor?

because you cannot have them in if god forbid something goes wrong and they have to operate on you.

Wow, I didn't know this! Oh I'm going to look really attractive while I'm giving birth but I'm sure I won't care at that moment

Yes you can. I wore mine and the doctor did not mention a thing about it. Even if you're having a c-section you can wear them since you're only going under local anasthesia.

I wore my contacts the entire time, even through my c-section. I had heard this too so at each "step", I remember telling every nurse that I was wearing contacts. They all looked at me as if to say, "so what"
When I finally got back to a room around 5 in the morning, I could not wait to take those babies out of my eyes!

I wore mine and had a c-section. No problems

really? are you sure? Why can't you take them out if you have to have a c-section at that point?

i just wore my glasses. i was glad, because i had the opportunity to sleep a little after i got the epi and i can't sleep with my contacts in.

I'm legally blind without corrective lenses and do not see nearly as well with my glasses. Unless they absolutely forbid it i'm keeping my contacts in! I'll have my glasses on standby just in case but it really sounds like it shouldn't be a problem.

St Charles told me I could not wear my contacts the day of my c-section. When I told the nurse I wore contacts at the pre-op testing they actually wrote it on my chart and the nurse in Labor and Delivery asked me about it the next day.

My Ob told me I couldn't god forbid my c-section went bad and then I had to go under general. But I have never heard this with going vaginally.

you can wear them.

i've had 2 prior surgeries and although the paperwork all said "no contacts" the anesthesiologist and surgeon said it was fine.

if i have a c section, they'll have to take them out themselves, because i'm absolutely not taking them out. there's no medical reason and i won't be able to see my baby.

ETA: i was under the anesthesia where you are totally knocked out--i think that's general? local it doesn't matter at all.

AND i was pregnant during one of the surgeries!

I wore my contacts during labor and my c-section. I even asked my Dr about it prior and he did not seem to care that they were in.

I couldn't imagine wearing glasses during labor-so uncomfortable

Contacts are fine but if your labor goes on awhile and goes into the wee hours of the morning it's always recommended to have your glasses with you as a back-up. Now I've never worn contacts so I don't know what they feel like but I have had patients blow a few blood vessels in their eyes from pushing (not the norm but it comes from pushing in your face) and I can't imagine that would feel good with contacts in the eyes.

I wear contacts and personally I wouldn't want to wear my contacts during labor. My eyes tend to dry up every couple of hours. One less thing to worry about.

This better not be true. I literally can not see without them. If you were standing 4-5 feet away from me I wouldn’t be able to see your facial expressions at all. All I could see is your mouth move.

Who cares if I leave them in. I can sleep with mine in. Heck, until recently I only removed them twice or so a month.

Then again, I wear Gas Permeable, so I never really have to worry about drying out or tearing.

I had my contacts in from the time they induced me right through the c-section....no problems

Most plaes will alow you to where them, and some places ask for you to sign a refusal to remove form.
