why do i get so tired when im sick?

ok i have been out for 2 days form work because im not feeling well.

what always happens is that i dont get bombarded with symptoms. i just get really tired.. similar to having a light case of mono.

a few years ago i went to the doctor because i couldnt shake the feeling for a few weeks, and when he ran my blood work my epstein barr levels were high.

is this something that could be happening every time im fighting something? is this bad? normal?

anyone experience anything like this?

Have you had your iron levels checked? do you get winded easily when walking a lot or up and down the stairs??

Whatever it is, i hope you feel better soon!!!

Maybe your body is telling you to give it a rest, if the docs aren't finding anything specific.
Drink a lot of fluids - feeling tired is one side effect of dehydration.

Re: why do i get so tired when im sick?

The same thing happens to me when I get sick. Often the first sign for me is how ridiculously exhausted I am. If I pay attention to it quickly enough, sometimes a night or two of extra sleep takes care of it. If I ignore it is usually when it escalates.

I've always been this way. Illness just sort of wipes me out. Not sure why but I've just sort of accepted it.

ok meredith..thank you! at least im not alone Chat Icon

sleep was really all i needed.

its just crazy, because i dont get inundated with symptoms of any particular sort, just "off" and realllly tired.

im glad to say that i feel fantastic tonight after so much sleep.

Have you had your B12 level checked? I thought I might have had mono but turned out my B12 was out of range and really low.

The reason why you are so tired when you become sick is because your body is fighting the infection, or virus. The lymph nodes are working extra hard and doing their job.

When your body gets attack, it fights and this is why most of us become so fatigue. It's normal but if it persists longer than 4 days, I'd seek medical advice.

It's very important to increase your intake of fluids, and get some sleep.

Take a daily multi-vitamin and wash your hands often.

I hope you feel better.
