WHY do they keep saying this is the worst of the storms this year...
when we are only anticipated to get 2-4 inches?
Is it due to how many states will be affected?
Isn't it supposed to be nothing for LI?

I think its because of the places getting really hit it will be bad. Plus its supposed to be an ice storm here, which will make travel very dangerous. We may not be getting hit, but some areas are looking at 2 to 3 feet or more

I think it has to do with a few things, like the ice factor and the fact that so much of the country is anticipated to get hit by it. Other places are expected to get much, much more snow than us, and from what I understand ice can be even more dangerous and crippling than snow.

I believe it is because of the impact it will have on other areas. Over 30 states are being affected by this storm. In the midwest, there could be up to one inch of ice. That is insane!
I am upstate and today we are suppose to get 3-6 inches of snow today and tomorrow we are getting 14-20 inches.

That's exactly it. A storm affecting 30 states concurrently is INSANE. So for us it might not be as bad as last week's storm, or early January's, or the day after Christmas ... but the impact this one storm has on the majority of the country is huge.

If you look at some of the radar pictures - it looks like that storm in Day After Tomorrow 
ETA: I am obviously exaggerating but its a BIG one.

It's not such a bad storm for us, in terms of snow accumulation. The ice will be hazardous though. However, this storm is impacting a huge portion of the nation, and it looks like many other areas will have substantial snow fall totals. Westchester will be worse than LI, and further upstate will be worse than that.

I say this all the time that Id much rather drive on the snow than drive with ice...but yet its almost like people hear snow and freak out, but when they hear ice its like meh whatever. (this also relates to mass transit to)

I was watching something on the weather channel wehre they were puring freezing water on a powerline to show how quickly ice can form and bring down a power line. Ice is very very dangerous!

the company I work for is all over the country and we have had a few of our offices close early today and are already closed for tomorrow because of this storm.....It is reaching so many people, its not just a localized storm.

Also, lots of places in the tri-state area are getting quite a bit of snow. Here in Bergen County, NJ we are expecting 6-12 inches.
