Just call me worst mom of the year...
Ds and I finally got out of the house to run our errands... when we got home- I had to many thing to carry in- so I came in, got him settled, put my things down, and ran back out- shutting the door behind me to get the things out of the trunk (I live in an apt. so my car is literally right there less than 10ft away)
Well RJ- who has never even been able to reach the door knob- mustve been fiddling with it- trying to follow me out, and locked me out... YEP- locked me out, and himself inside all alone...
I have no keys, no cell phone, no nothing... I couldnt even think straight- I begin to panic and have to talk myself into a game plan to fix this situation...
I just start ringing everydoor next to me- until someone answers... finally the man next door answers... I couldnt even get the words out of my mouth... but I muttered something about using the phone.. and he handed it to me...
I call my MIL- and tell her she needs to bring me my spare key ASAP...She begins to panic telling me- My DH (who was out with my FIL) is parked behind her and she is not able to get out...She says- Ill get a neighbor to help- be there as soon as I can...
My neighbor asks if I have any windows open, and I say yes- my kitchen... He then says- I can get you in... and proceeded to pop out my screen and hoist me in...
The whole process was MAYBE 5 min. long... but it felt like forever...
The whole time I could see DS- he just stood at the window laughing and talking to us the whole time... but somehow it didnt make me feel any better...
Of course when I got in-I realized my back sliding door was open and the screen was unclocked... so all I really had to do- was walk around back- but of course in crisis I didnt even think about that!
I feel terrible- How could've I let this happen? What kind mom- locks her child in the house all alone??? So forget adding my name to "the book"- Im the freakin author!!

To be honest, it happens. Why do you think we have a separate key hidden. Along with having to jump in a window ourselves. KIds figure things out and to be honest, you can only laugh.

It's not that bad. I'm sure it scared the heck out of you, but it turned out ok.

Re: Just call me worst mom of the year...
I did the same thing to my mom when I was younger. She walked down the driveway to get the mail. I apparently thought it was hysterical also. She had to get my neighbor and they had to come in through the window as well. Trust me you are more upset about it than he is. As horrible as you feel, don't worry about it. He is ok.

Re: Just call me worst mom of the year...
oh dont feel so bad marissa (im useless in crisis too, I just get in panic mode and blank out). Luckily RJ is very smart and has a great mommy who taught him well.
My sister locked herself and her 3 kids out of the house when she was 9m preggo with her 4th and GOD bless him, her 84 yr old neighbor (who's as fit and trim as a 40 yr old) climibed into her basement window and got them back in)
It happens to all of us ! now erase your name from that author slot !

I locked my daughter in the car when she was 1 and I freaked out. She was crying and I was screaming "F*ck, F*ck, F*ck!!!!", while my 4 yo, looked at me in horror. It is so scary when they are out of our reach

Re: Just call me worst mom of the year...
Been there, done that. Came home from shopping with my oldest daughter who was an infant at the time. Put her in the playpen and opened a back window. Went out to the car to get the groceries when a gust of wind blew the front door shut and it locked. I had to push in the back screen to get in the house. Stuff happens. One of the hazards of parenting.

It does happen...when I was a kid I locked my mom in the basement (why it had a lock I don't know) and she stayed down there for 3 hours till my dad got home...I was maybe 3...she said I just played the whole time

I lock my baby inside all the time when I go back out to get the groceries. My huge fear is locking my keys in the car while he is in the apt.

Re: Just call me worst mom of the year...
Don't feel bad, you aren't the only one. My son locked me out of my house one morning when I ran out to the front lawn in my PJ's... For 20 minutes I screamed at him through the door to turn the lock mechanism... Luckily, he ended up doing it, or I would have been going to the neighbor in my PJ's and calling DH at work to come home.

Re: Just call me worst mom of the year...
I too have been there done that. My two year old locked the french door while I was on the deck grilling dinner. She was convinced the whole thing was a joke and was just laughing and smiling the whole time. After a few minutes I realized the only choice I had was to use the grill brush to put a hole in the screen. Oh well, the guy from Windowrama, who I ordered my new screen from, told me I was the third mother that month who had the same problem.
Hope that makes you feel a little better.

Re: Just call me worst mom of the year...
No harm done. Everyone if fine. It happens.
I've already mastered the break-in to my house after locking my keys in the house numerous times. At least you had an excuse as to why yours was locked.

Re: Just call me worst mom of the year...
Don't feel bad. I accidentally locked Ava in the hose when she just started to crawl......and I was in my pajamas. I banged on my neighbors door in hysterics. The police came and didn't do anything. Then my Mom got here after a 20 minute drive with a spare key. Every window was closed and locked beacuse the central air was on. I can't imagine what a nut a looked and seemed like to the police and any passerby. I'll never forget my sweet baby smiling to us all out the front door!!!! I feel your pain!!!!
P.s. I keep a set of keys hidden outside!!

OMG, I would have had a heart attack too, but these things happen all the time! My MIL often tells the story of how she locked her first son in the running car on the street--in the days before cell phones!

Re: Just call me worst mom of the year...
Aw, I can understand why you'd panic. You're not the worst mom of the year by any means though. Stuff happens and it least you got back in the house quickly. From the sound of it, it seems like RJ didn't even realize anything was wrong!
