OMG are you serious?? That is why it was cancelled??!!!!!
yes a tattoo thread is what started it -- then spin offs and cross posts continued it -- and the next thing you knew it was like a battle between the Bloods and Crypts.
Geez where the hell was I???
Kathleen, I may be wrong, but I know there was a huge BBQ GTG planned for when we were all on our HM...not sure if this was the same one or a different one
Yup, that's the one. The big attempt to have a joint LIW/LIF event at Eisenhower Park that was cancelled over drama that crossed between the two sites.

I would imagine there is no money to be made with a LIF GTG.
For TWOY, there are tons of bridal sponsors that basically pay for the event.
you just need to get a little business savy and creative and you can come up with things...
food stores (like catering places) bakeries, ice cream places, photographers... they could all want in on it. There are still business opportunities to be had after the wedding aspect of things are over... you might just have to be more creative with things....

I know. I am just saying there is a big difference between wedding vendors and vendors that say (advertise on this site).
During my wedding I know I *needed* a catering hall. I *needed* a photographer. There were a lot of needs for a wedding.
The vendors I see on here... not really needs. More wants than needs IMO. I am sure the vendors themselves look at it the same way and I'm sure that's why there hasn't been an LIF sponsored event yet.
Just my two cents. And that's not an overall knock on the vendors on this site because I have actually hired a few of them.

IDK.. i could see myself "needing" a place to cater food... using that in the same sense of "needing" a catering hall for a wedding. because in both senses to me they are really "wants"... I only really need the things I need to survive.
overall it could be just a good way to get your business name out there... and grow as a company. There's still a plus to it IMO, even if it's not wedding related. Aside from word of mouth being a huge catapult in growing a business... we try their food.... we tell our friends and families and bam they want their next event catered by this place.
I guess overall I just don't see it that different from the wedding world. If I owned a business I would def want to sponsor a LIF event like that to get my business out there... 10 years ago I worked in a bank... they did a business of the week where different business accounts would cater food for the bank customers... they would bring trays and trays of food (if it was another type of place they did whatever pertained to the business) along with signs and business cards.. it's a networking/marketing thing. Works for all businesses.

I agreed with everything you said except for this. The wedding world is a huge money making machine. They are very different. They have bridal shows for a reason.
What would you even call one of these shows? A home show? Family show? Parenting show? They already have home shows at Nassau Veterans every year (or is it SUNY Farmingdale now?).
Lets just say money spent on things like the above are dwarfed by the money spent on weddings. Especially Long Island weddings.
I am not against a LIF GTG. I'm just saying I am not surprised we haven't seen one (yet).

yes, indeed weddings, ESPECIALLY the LI and NY weddings (because weddings are NOT what they are here in the rest of the USA) definitely yield far more money than a small business would. What I meant by that comment was more the idea of how it would operate and the purpose of it to me is really similar, if not the same; it had no bearing of the amount of money which could be benefited from it.
I think even for small businesses though, it could be very beneficial. They are usually working on a smaller scale... and this could really be a good thing for them.
I think gtg's on LIF would be more difficult than LIW for the sheer magnitude of it all. LIW seems smaller and more "homey" in a sense in that you do things with your wedding year, etc. LIF seems much larger, many more forums and much more people.
Oh and I would call it a sponsored event... large and small businesses do this now... for example Capital One Bank, formerly North Fork Bank sponsors the Strawberry Festival in Mattituck every June... it's usually just called the name of the event and then sponsored by xxxxxx. Then they put a bank booth there because the aim of the day is to get the name of the business out there and obtain as many new customers as they can. When I think of those "parties" those are more like the home party things you have... like a candle party, tupperware party, sex toy party, etc.

Re: Why doesn't LIF sponsor some type of G2G?
I hosted one a few years back . We had it at applebees. It was great. About 30 of us turned out from all over. You can host one if you like anytime. Just make a post , have help and do it. If you want a picnic, find a place, have everyone bring food, toys ect. It was a GREAT time had by all! Just saying!

This was a fun one!
I will say some of the Parenting ones are definitley started by other parents and not sponsored by LIF! Just take the initiative, start a thread and get the ball rolling!

Exactly! There is kid GTG organized by posters and a mommy GTG also organized by posters.
Those are not sponsored by LIF.
Although I think the Infant GTG in December had some LIF vendors. But it was initiated by a poster on the parenting board.
People attenting also contribute $$$ to participate to those huge GTG.
Those events cost money to host. If only to get a place big enough to host that many people.
