why don't people RSVP?

DS's baptism is in 12 days. the RSVP date for the party is in 5 days. invites have been out for about 3 weeks.

out of 91 people, 30 have RSVPed. 30!!!!

i just don't understand. i always call right away or at least as soon as i know i can or can't go.

i just feel like i'm going to have to call all those people next week. i should have made the RSVP date earlier, but i didn't think this many people wouldn't call.

dont take it personally, sometimes people open invitations and think - i have plenty of time to reply to that...then they tuck the invitation into nowhere land and forget that it exists.

come the date of the rsvp another family member or friend reminds said person of the event, and they frantically search for the misplaced invitation and finally call on the last possible day - or 2 days later...


well, thats my reason anyway!

I have that pet peeve, always happens to me. I dont know why they dont.

I don't know. It bothers me to no end when your trying to plan enough food and other stuff.

They will come! DH'S family is the WORST and there is so many of them that it totally screws me up!

I maybe in the minority here but I wouldn't sweat it; the RSVP date is not for another 5 days, that's a pretty long time.

I could see your frustration more if it was after the RSVP date, but I don't think you've got much of a leg to stand on at this point and would definitely hold off on calling anyone.

I'd bet within the next 3 or 4 days you'll get a good amount of people RSVPing...

Many people think that if they aren't coming they don't have to call. They think you RSVP if you are going to attend. To me it's just common courtesy. You got an invitation so just say yes or no!!!!!

The exact same thing happened with DS's Christening..

I think maybe 2 people of the extended family on DH's side responded, and the RSVP by date had come and gone.. I told my MIL and she said they always do this, and she had kind of expected it..

She called every single person on their side of the family for me, I guess she was embarrased that they did that to me, but it really helped me out


And as another annoying spinoff to your vent..

Why do people RSVP to someone who was not the delegated RSVP person.. just an example.. they call my MIL instead of just calling me and saying they are coming It just makes things confusing and then she has to keep track of what's what

I'm SURE other people's families do this also..

I could understand being upset that people don't respond by the actual RSVP date. But just like deadlines in school--Some people get it done right away. Others get it done last minute. Either way, if it's in by the due date, what's the fuss?

Oy, that makes me nuts too.

And I hate it when I get calls from my MIL telling me so and so is coming and so and so is not.

Why can't they call me???

...because people are rude and seemingly have no consideration for the plans you need to make and the financial impact their response will have on you.

I would give it a little while and then start calling.

I am one of the guilty ones! So sorry! I meant to call, but I kept thinking I have time. Stupid too, since I knew we were going to rsvp yes since I got the invite. SO SO SORRY!
