Why I don't tell people my name choices...
The ladies at work where bugging me to tell them names I like. I told them two girl names DH and I are seriously considering. They laugh at both of them and one person even thought I was kidding with the names. I didn't think my name choices where that unusual. What do you think?

I actually think they are very pretty. Amelia is an adorable name. People say and do stupid things sometimes. Boo to them!

I understand if you don't like my name choices, but they actually thought I was making them up. I don't get it!! They didn't like Amelia because it was an old ladies name.

I love both names!! Lilyana is spelled differently, but still a pretty name. And I love Amelia! This is why we're keeping the name a secret...people can be so rude!

I got the same responses on some choice of names both boy and girl and I got the same reaction as well. I give the whatever or kiss my arse look.

Well I have an amelia so I am biased.
We planned on calling her Mia but it never happened. She is baby Meels.
I love Amelia and Lilyana is very nice too.
ETA When I was pg with Ayla everyoen hated her name. They kept saying are you still naming her Ayla? I ignored them. I named my child Ayla and I have no regrets.
PLENTY of times I will hear a name I don't like but I would NEVER tell the person that.
I'll never forget when a co-worker of mine named his son Odyseus Ulyses (sp?) holy Greek. Here's the catcher he is not Greek, not one ounce and either is his wife. Why that name? Although I was thinking in my head what r u nuts, I didn't say one word.

And it's funny b/c when we started serioulsy thinking about names, Amelia was th eone girls name everyone loved.

i LOVE the nane lilyana , but dh and i had chosen linda as a middle name first so it didnt work.... but really... who cares what they say... they prob have stupid names anyway

I think both choices are beautiful..My daughters name is Mattea Rose and when I tell people her name I either get a "oh beautiful", "never heard that name before" or "wow, what a different name"
I take them all as a compliment!!!!!!I love that my DD has a different unique name and so will your DD!!!

That's so tactless of them...
I find that people who pester you repeatedly to find out what you're naming your baby are the same ones who will judge your choice(s).
My answer is always 'we're still deciding' or 'we haven't agreed on anything yet.'

Okay, so most of you agree that my choices aren't that unusual. I didn't even get into boy's names. I refused to tell them, since DH and I have already decided on a name. I would only tell them the middle name, which is Matthew. Most of my family really likes Amelia. I also found out both DH and I both had Amelia's in our family's.
You all made me feel much better. I was starting to doubt my choices.

I love your 2 names. They are not so common...maybe they were expecting traditional names. Either way----those women stink!I have had people tell me the names they had chosen and even if they weren't to my liking, I would never laugh or say "ew!". That's just wrong.
When we had our first child, I got plenty of people turning up their noses at our name choice. My DD is still named Piper though and the name suits her. I only cared that my dad didn't like the name and was hurt that he told me he didn't care for it----a bit insensitive--I think.
ETA: Lily is our girl name too (if we have a girl).
