Why is everyone on Facebook changing their status to the name of a color?
I don't want to ask my friends on there and feel like the only loser not in on it!

Re: Why is everyone on Facebook changing their status to the name of a color?
Okay, there's apparently a mass email going around that says:
Some fun is going on.... just write the color of your bra in your status. Just the color, nothing else. And send this on to ONLY girls no men .... It will be neat to see if this will spread the wings of cancer awareness. It will be fun to see how long it takes before the men will wonder why all the girls have a color in their status... Haha!
So, oops, we have some men on this board right? You have to promise not to tell.
How this "spreads the wings of cancer awareness," though, I have no clue. Sounds like some bored fifteen year old boy made this up and now it's all over the Internet.

Re: Why is everyone on Facebook changing their status to the name of a color?
I gotta be honest -- I don't think it makes any sense at all and is kind of silly.
How the heck is changing your FB status to just a one word color of your bra, and NOT explaining what is is about, helping to spread breast cancer awareness??
It even says not to let the guys know about this -- sooo its even more one sided as only the females who know what the msg is about, understand its about breast cancer awareness. How is that helping?
As my girlfriend and I were discussing this before, it would be better to donate money at Komen.org or go and click on thehungersite.com to give a free mammogram.

Re: Why is everyone on Facebook changing their status to the name of a color?
The version I received didn't say anything about breast cancer awareness--it was just a game:
"We are playing a game...... silly, but fun! Right the colour of your bra as your status, just the colour, nothing else!! Copy this and pass it on to all girls/Females ...... NO MEN!! This will be fun to see how it spreads, and we are leaving the men wondering why all females just have a colour as their status!! Let's have fun!!
dont ask - lol - been asked to pass on to see how quick the color thing spreads "

Re: Why is everyone on Facebook changing their status to the name of a color?
I'm boycotting it. I have an aunt that's a survivor, I lost 2 aunts, and now my MIL is fighting the same demon..
My original status was: "Hey I got an idea- instead of posting your bra color- raise some REAL awareness and go to Susan G. Komen and donate a dollar!!! ? Aunts Carrie, Evelyn, Jo-Jo, and Mom T ? 4 of the strongest women I know"
I then posted a link to the Susan G. Komen site and my friends donated- so far it's up to approx 30$....
My new status is this: "In honor of the overwhelming response my previous status received, I'm switching it up. From the Susan G. Komen site: "With a simple text message, you can make a $5 donation to Susan G. Komen for the Cure® by simply texting the word “KOMEN” to 90999. Each $5 donation will be added to your next mobile phone bill." Go!! ...Donate now! Screw the bra colors- let's raise some real awareness!"
Let's see how much is raised with this one!

How would that even work for your bobs though, isn't the character field limit only 140 characters or something??? Sorry

I saw when you posted this on fb and was so glad that someone was posting something that actually made sense because I hadn't received that email so when everyone was posting colors I was so confused

that's the one I received... I don't understand why anyone would be bothered by it even IF it was for awareness... ANY awareness is GOOD awareness and you know fb is filled with 1898381928 "under 18" year old's who show their support for something in some way, shape or form.

I'm sure some people find it silly or funny -- and that's fine for them I suppose, but I have a right to not think its too funny.
Watching my grandmother go thru breast cancer was just hilaaaaaaarious.
Seeing her cry when she was told she was losing one of her breasts.....just doesn't bring up the idea of "silly & fun".
Remembering how she hated looking at her special bra and wearing it out so it looked like she still had 2 breats, still can bring a tear to my eyes.
So for me, maybe I'm sensitive to it, I found the whole thing to do nothing to raise any awareness at all.
My status right now (stolen from HTL407 ): From the Susan G. Komen site: "With a simple text message, you can make a $5 donation to Susan G. Komen for the Cure® by simply texting the word “KOMEN” to 90999. Each $5 donation will be added to your next mobile phone bill." Go!! Donate now! SCREW THE BRA COLORS! Let's raise some real awareness!
I hope THAT spreads -- and already a few friends have changed their status to that instead of a bra color.

ITA... I wasn't "offended" by the FB bra thing- however it definitely struck a cord. I don't think it raised any awareness; the one I got was about breast cancer but specifically stated "no men allowed- don't tell them". Last time I checked, they also get breast cancer- and how is it awareness if it's a game just for the girls *'m speaking SOLELY about the breast cancer message*
Thinking about my aunt & MIL- I hardly doubt they'd appreciate people posting bra colors to 'raise awareness'. I'm pretty confident speaking for them and saying they'd rather people save their energy 'raising awareness' by posting bra colors and then explaining it in order to 'talk about breast cancer and raise awareness'. Just go to Susan G. Komen and donate a dollar. Forget awareness- let's find a cure
IMHO- I know it doesn't count for much in the grand scheme of things- it wasn't funny at all- it really got me upset. My MIL *wishes* she could wear a black, pink, purple, nude, lace, white, orange, yellow, ANY BRA at this point in time
