its just a silly fun thing. Doesn't anyone act silly or have fun anymore?? No one is getting hurt by it....
I'm sure some people find it silly or funny -- and that's fine for them I suppose, but I have a right to not think its too funny.
Watching my grandmother go thru breast cancer was just hilaaaaaaarious.
Seeing her cry when she was told she was losing one of her breasts.....just doesn't bring up the idea of "silly & fun".
Remembering how she hated looking at her special bra and wearing it out so it looked like she still had 2 breats, still can bring a tear to my eyes.
So for me, maybe I'm sensitive to it, I found the whole thing to do nothing to raise any awareness at all.
My status right now (stolen from HTL407 ): From the Susan G. Komen site: "With a simple text message, you can make a $5 donation to Susan G. Komen for the Cure® by simply texting the word “KOMEN” to 90999. Each $5 donation will be added to your next mobile phone bill." Go!! Donate now! SCREW THE BRA COLORS! Let's raise some real awareness!
I hope THAT spreads -- and already a few friends have changed their status to that instead of a bra color.
Well said. I don't care what anyone posts as their status. They can put the last time they had sex for all I care. But don't be under the illusion that this silly game will raise any awareness of anything....

Now that could be fun....or tragic....depending on your love life.

Re: Why is everyone on Facebook changing their status to the name of a color?
I've lost 3 family members to breast cancer. My mom is a survivor, who is dreading the fact that she has to go off her remission meds in a few months. (My aunt, who died of breast cancer after a long, long battle with breast and bone cancer, had her first recurrence one she had to stop the meds that you can only take for 5 years.) This is a cause near and dear to my heart. It's something I think about on a daily basis. I watched my aunt waste away during a bone marrow transplant that should have given her 10 years to live. She got maybe 4. I never knew my grandmother because of breast cancer. I watched my mom suffer through treatment, terrified. I've seen it and gone through it with family members, and I know I'm not the only one.
Given that, I couldn't give two craps whether someone wants to post their bra color as their Facebook status, in the name of breast cancer or anything else. It's not worth my energy to get upset about. One thing I've learned from my experiences is that life is too short to get upset over stuff like this. People cite "breast cancer awareness" for any number of stupid, silly things they do. If it makes you giggle to see what color bra everyone is wearing today, then consider it a female bonding experience with the women you love in you life. I wish I had more of those moments to share with my family members, and I sure won't begrudge anyone from doing something fun and silly (whether they think it's about breast cancer or not) just because I think it's not really doing anything to advance the cause or spread awareness. We all pretty much know that already. I just let it go.
No, breast cancer isn't funny or silly. The treatment isn't funny. But my aunt was funny. She was beautiful, smart, silly, and downright hilarious. I think if she had anything to say to anyone still living, it would be to have more fun in your life and laugh as much as possible.
So while this isn't raising money for the cause or anything else, it's really nothing worth getting upset about. It's something silly and stupid and there are bigger things in life to worry about than this. And, honestly, if it makes even one person think about going to get screened, doing a self-exam, or donating a few dollars to a BC charity, all the better in my book.
And FTR, I don't have a FB account and DH's the only one who'll find out what color bra I'm wearing.
