Why would a town park ranger be hanging around my neighborhood?

Thursday evening I noticed a town park ranger parked diagonally across the street from our house. I thought maybe there was a fox or something in the neighborhood that he was checking out. Saturday I went shopping and he was driving very slowly down the street and stopped in front of our house. I signaled that I would be parking there and he continued driving.

This morning I'm leaving for work and there he is again. On his cell phone.

I don't live anywhere near a park or wooded area. We had a fox in the neighborhood in the fall, but the SCPD responded when we called. It's making me feel uneasy though. Is there anyone I could call? Does anyone know a reason a park ranger would be in a residential area?

Did anyone move recently? Could he be your new neighbor? I would ask one of your neighbors if they know. If no one knows why he is there call the police o r figure out which agency he works for and call them.

I think the parks police has been absorbed by the Suffolk County PD. I would call your local precinct.

I would ask him ' I've noticed you here a couple of days now, is everything okay with the area? I know we've had foxes in the past? '

Foxes are not a problem that park rangers would be concerned about. They live in suburban areas all over the country. I have had a den with kits on my property twice in the last four years.

Coyotes might be a problem, but I have not heard of any being on Long Island outside of a few spotted in Queens this year and one that was photographed out East in Water Mill several years ago.

Is there a house for sale? He might want to check the neighborhood at different times of day and is doing it on the way to or from work. I would just ask if you see him again.
