The amount of people defending Will Smith (online, not this site) is shocking to me.
If someone makes fun of my kid at school can I go punch them and then win a mom of the year award? I’m assuming not.
Yeah it was an inappropriate joke. So cancel Chris Rock like you do everyone else that hurts your feelings. But they act like they are these fragile people that haven’t been in the public eye for all these years. Geez, grow a pair already.
I think comparing an adult punching a child to an adult slapping another adult is not the same. NOT saying any of this was right but this is not a good comparison.

Yeah of course it’s ridiculous. But we live in a twisted bizarro clown world now.
People are praising Will Smith for “defending his wife.” Arguably a child needs more defending than a grown adult.
The whole thing makes me so angry. The privilege these narcissists enjoy - and people accept - is beyond disgusting.

Clearly will smith snapped and that was not ok.
But anyone making fun of a traumatic health issue is sick and twisted too. Chris rock is disgusting.
I've read that she lost her hair due to over-processing it throughout the years. I'm not 100% sure if that's the whole story though.
In fairness to Chris Rock, it really wasn't a cruel joke. He simply referenced a movie where the main character was also bald. He didn't make fun of her condition or even criticize her, his joke was no different than the countless other jabs that were taken at everyone in the audience throughout the evening.
She has Alopecia which is a disease. He was making fun of her having a disease. He was making fun of how she looks. So if that is ok, then maybe we should let Roseanne back on the air because she was just making fun of looks too or maybe it's now ok when Trump made fun of the disabled person that everyone was up in arms about. You don't make fun of race or disabilities/diseases. Period. Will was wrong but so was Chris Rock. Being a comedian does not give you permission to be an insensitive prick.

That slap was meant for the dude(s) she cheated with not Chris Rock. He put it on the wrong guy and made a fool of himself.
They were separated at the time. She didn't actually cheat on him. He was well aware of the relationship and has stated numerous times that he was okay with it because of the point that their marriage was at.

Chris Rock was definitely wrong to make fun of a medical condition but it should have been handled completely differently. There is typically never a need to assault someone.

I am not defending his actions at all but I don't find any problem with someone defending his wife, in non-violent ways. I would hope my husband would defend me over something that bothers me, which he definitely has in the past but of course in a non-violent way.

Bingo for ANYONE or ANYTHING if you don't know the entire story OR you haven't ok'd that the joke would be ok with that person.

I agree with this. It was a tasteless, classless joke and I don’t think someone whose gut reaction was to defend their wife is so abhorrent.

This. She opened up about alopecia in 2018 I believe and then decided to shave her head last year. She also has shaved all her hair before her condition as a look so being bald is not new for her and don’t think it’d make her feel uncomfortable. If she was uncomfortable, she would have gone to the show with a wig or something, not bald. Chris could also have made a really bad, under the belt joke but he didn’t. GI Jane was a hot woman that rocked (no pun intended lol) a bald head, he pretty much called her that with that joke.

I’m so confused at how the joke was offensive did people forget about that movie and the meaning behind it? Demi moor shaving her head was very positive and empowering to women.
Will and Jada are assholes. Did Chris Rock even know she had Alopecia because I didn’t? Jada has always rocked short hair.

With cancel culture, I can't imagine Will would take the chance on ruining his career over a prank.
I've been reading comedians on Twitter and a lot of them are concerned that the public might now think it's ok to assault comics onstage if they're offended by a joke. Basically - Will was laughing, saw Jada wasn't happy, assaulted Chris with millions watching, and got a standing ovation when he won the Oscar. No reprocussions.

To be honest we don’t even know Chris knew she had alopecia. I didn’t know til I read about it last night. He didn’t make fun of her disease, he made a joke of her being bald (comparing her to a hot woman, that doesn’t sound like a terrible joke to me). Like I said before, this is not the first time she’s bald.

I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if Jada was actually upset at being compared to another actress who made a bold statement for a movie. Like wanting this to be her own thing. Actors are narcissists, it’s why they are so good at their job.

I am not condoning either. If you can not understand that he was making fun of a part of her that was caused by a disease there is no use even speaking with you. Also, while Trump was 100% wrong, how do you think it looks to the world when America is laughing at a joke made at someone else's expense because they have an illness. The whole world was watching and yet again Americans prove they are heartless assholes. Comedians do not have full range to make fun of people just because they want too, there is a line and he crossed it. Make fun of her characters, make fun of her movies, even make fun of her having affairs but you do not make fun of her disability.

She has been very open about it, so him not knowing is not an excuse. The whole thing is F'ed up. Will should not have touched him and he should have been more sensitive and maybe people will stop making jokes on people's appearances.

A comedians job is to make people laugh. Do you not understand humor?
He told a joke. As did every other host and presenter last night.
Show me exactly where he made fun of her "disability". I truly think that you're making way more of his joke than it was meant to be. He referenced a movie with another bald actress. That's it. He didn't make fun of her bald head. He didn't make fun of anyone with alopecia. He didn't even say anything rude or insulting towards her AT ALL. He literally made reference to a movie.
All due redirect, I completely disagree with your take on this entire situation. Chris Rock was just doing his job as a comedian and Will Smith acted like an a$$hole after literally LAUGHING at the joke that was told.

Re: Will Smith
Janet Jackson was cancelled in a hot second for a wardrobe malfunction at a sporting event. Will Smith acts like a Neanderthal and cave man at a supposedly classy event gets a standing ovation. This is what’s wrong with this world.

I agree with you, the double standard is ridiculous. I can't believe they let him sit back down AND then accept an award where he was given the luxury of the spotlight to ramble on about how amazing he is.
First Oscar win and all anyone will ever talk about or remember is his little toddler tantrum.

Exactly. It’s crazy! If he acted as an impulse, he had more than enough time to reflect and at least throw some type of apology at his speech but instead he said he’s a vessel of love…lmao!!!!
