Hi all! I am completely redoing our home and the architect said he likes double hung compared to casement. In my old house I had double hung and never had a problem. He also said I can get them with the grids inside. What are your thoughts? Any pics???

We have the removable grills. Personally I like the grills off. I have a double window and for 6 months I had 1 with the grill and 1 without. In the end I think without gives a clearer view through the window. With the grill I kind of felt like I was in jail.
I thought I would want the grills on.
We have Anderson double hungs. Casement in the kitchen and the LR bay. I like having the casement in the kitchen because with the counter I would never be able to open the double hung. Same with the one in the LR.

I personally hate casement windows. As for grills it's such a personal taste thing

Re: Windows

Thank you so much for the feedback! The casement is a good idea for kitchen. I like the way casements look but not a fan of the cranks. Why do you hate them?

I don't feel like you get good air flow with them.

We have a casement in our upstairs bathroom. When it's all the way open, we get a lot of fresh air coming through the window.

I don't think it matters what your architect likes - it's what you like!

I personally don't like casement windows, but it's more because of the look. We have them now and I didn't think we would get good air flow, but it's actually just as good as regular windows. That being said, the house we're buying has casements and I plan on redoing them as soon as we can afford it.

We bought low profile cranks at home depot. The are much smaller than the cranks the windows come with. We did this because we installed blinds and wanted the blinds to come down all the way.

Thank you so much for all your feedback! My husband and I have been driving around and we are going with the double hung! I do like them better the more I look at them. I actually really like the 3 windows together.

I really aprpeciate it!

Thank you!!!!!!!
