Winter mommies-to-be - flu shot?
I'm a HS guidance counselor, so I'm with kids all day, every day. I've never gotten a flu shot before. Should I get one this fall? Are you? Why or why not?

Not a winter mommy but I got mine this week.
Flu shots are safe for pregnant women. Myself and my OB 100% believe a pregnant woman should get it. If you don't, and get the flu and give it to a newborn it can be fatal to them... hardly worth it!
If you get it while you're pregnant, it also may pass some of the immunities to your baby. It's really win/win.

I am a teacher and get the flu shot every year and I will be getting it as soon as my dr gets it in this year. No reason to chance it in my mind

I want to see what the doc says
I have been teaching for 9 years now and never took the shot. I did get the flu once in those 9 years.
I had the shot when I was in HS and I got VIOLENTLY ill so I never took it again
I wanna see what the doc recommends. I am still on the fence....

My OB told me that she HIGHLY recommends it for pregnant women, would require it if she could. If you get the flu and a fever it can be really really harmful to the baby. I will definitely be getting it this year. I got it last year since we were TTC, and had no reaction to it. When I was younger I would get the flu whenever I got a flu shot. I think my body knew it was time to play by the rules this time around. Luckily my job offers them for free in November at our health fair, so I will be getting it then.

I am on the fence. The one and only time I got the flu shot about 7 yrs ago, I got so deathly ill for 10 days, I was in the hospital. So, I never got it again. I will only do it, if my Dr really feels strongly about it, otherwise I wont.

I never came down with it (knock wood), and this is my 7th year. I've worked in three different high schools, and two of my offices had no ventilation at all. My MIL, an RN, actually advised against it. I'll ask my MW.

planning on it! my mom is a peditric nurse and my best friend is a nicu nurse and they recommended getting that and the pertussis (whopping cough) vaccine- but I just want to confirm with my ob and my ped

I hate getting a flu shot-every time I've gotten it, I've gotten sick from it-so I haven't had one in a few years.
I'll be doing one this year though-my OB recommends it.

I will absolutely. I've gotten one every year with the exception of last year because there was a shortage and I wasn't in a high priority group.
I got it last time I was pregnant as well.

I don't think so.
The only times I've ever gotten 'the flu' is when I've gotten the flu shot.
I'll obviously talk to my ob about it...

I have never gotten the flu shot and I don't plan on it. It's just a personal thing, thats it. I did get the flu when I was pregnant with DS and it was not fun....but I got through it!

No, I never do and i especially won't while pregnant. I'm just too nervous for it, plus whenever *I* get any type of shot, I always feel the side effects.

I am  I am very pro medicine so I trus the docs on this one. I feel that it's not just me, the baby needs the immunity for when he comes to this world with all the stuff people are carrying!

My DH is going to get it soon (he never got the flu or the flu shot before)..and I am going to talk to my OB about it at my next appointment. I am wondering if I can get the shot in the hospital after  is born? I feel like they may not allow me to get it while pregnant. I have had some bad reactions to the flu shot in the past.

I have never had the flu shot and to my knowledge never had the flu. I didn't plan on getting the shot but I am going to talk to my OB about it before making a final decision.

did that change recently? Last season the regular flu shot did not cover you for h1n1?
