Wish me luck girls... UPDATE
Anyone who 'knows' me, either via FM or in real life, knows that throughout this pregnancy I have been a total worry wart!  At first, I was worried that I was gonna have another miscarriage [had one in Nov.] and now that I am 13 weeks, I am worried that my baby is mentally/physically disabled. I have severe mental retardation on my dad's side and Down's on my mom's side. I am about to leave work to go to Madonna's office for my nuchal translucency results/genetic counseling. I really want to get an amnio [I'm gonna be 34 when I deliver] and hope no tries to talk me out of it or tell me that I can't have it. 
Please send me healthy baby vibes and some good luck please. I am a basket of nerves.

UPDATE:
Thank you all for all of the good wishes and prayers.  DH and I spent about an hour talking to Barbara, a genetist at Madonna's office. She was fantastic and so understanding. We spilled our guts about everything that our family members suffer from. She made a detailed chart of our genetic family tree. Unfortunately, since my aunt never received a true diagnosis [ie. a named disease] for her two profoundly retarded children, she was unable to truly tell us how it may affect our child. It may be genetics or it may not be. My cousin with Down Syndrome was possible a sporadic event.
She suggested that I go for additional screening due to DH's and my heritage: AFP and Quad Screen, Sickle Cell [since I am part Puerto Rican], Tay Sachs- since DHs great granddad was Jewish and my great grandma was French Canadian [who knew that French Canadians were carriers!] amd also, High Resolution Chromosome Analysis- to see if I have any translocated chromosomes, which would indicate the possibility of my having a child with Down Syndrome.
My Ultrascreen numbers were: 1.5cm for the nuchal translucency, 1/7,021 for Down Syndrome and 1/10,000 for Trisomy. I wish I could say that I feel better about everything. But to be honest, I broke down and cried in the genetists office after sharing my anxiety with her. She told me many mommies to be are anxious and want to get an amnio simply for that reason. She reminded me that the amnio will not test for all retardation. She also said that my insurance may not cover the amnio since my numbers did not come back with a high risk nor will I be 35 years old at EDD.
All in all, it was a positive day of results.
I wish I could just calm down and not worry about everything. Even if the gobblin comes out ok, I am sure I will be walking on pins and needles for the baby's early life...wondering if he/she will have Autism. It just never ends. Maybe I'm just too crazy to be a Mommy. Thanks again for all of your hugs and support.

Oh, relax....I know that is hard to do. You sound just like me!!!! I have worried the whole time about every possible thing you can imagine from DS to the baby being paralyzed because I was kinda late to feel movement. I know how you feel but try to trust that everything is OK. Good luck and here's lots of (((((((((Healthy Baby Vibes)))))))))

Good luck. I'd be surprised if they try to talk you out of getting an amnio. It's usually the other way around where they have to convince people to get one. Let us know how it goes.

I felt the same way....
get your ultrascreen done... wear your glasses, and see what the measurements are that are being flicked on the screen. If they are about 2.6mm (it could also be lower), you're FINE. even if they are slightly above 2.6 you are likely fine....
try not to stress too much I was super tense about that, and I got normal ultrascreen results....

I too have spina biffida and downs on my dads side. I had no tests (personal choice) since I did not want to know -since I had no plans of doing anything about it. I am 39 and my baby was "Perfect" as my pediatrition said. I worried terribly my pregnancy but just tried my best to eat well, exercise, and enjoy the 9 months as much as I could. Chances are all is fine with your little one also. Good luck with the decisions on the tests. Its not easy.
