With all of these MIL posts - moms of boys....
Do you ever worry that you will be a MIL some day?
I get sad thinking about the fact that Jack may grow up and marry some girl who wants to do everything with her family making me hardly ever see him or my future grandchildren.
I know that I always had a picture in my head of how my MIL would be - and what kind of a relationship we would have (Lunches, shopping, cooking for holidays together) and it makes me sad that I don't have that kind of relationship with mine at all.
I hope that I will be to Jack's future wife - what I always hoped to have in a MIL.

Yup all of the time. Also I'm sure to be hated by DIL because Joseph is a mama's boy.
He's already told me he's living with me forever - even when he gets married.
Ok I know that won't happen but I loved hearing it just the same.

We were talking about this the other day and Leo says we have to hang outside of foster homes and orphanges when Josh gets to a dating age to search for the perfect girl who needs a family.

yes i have def thought this, but you just have to hope that your future DIL is a good person and that your son wont let that happen even if you dont have a good relationship with her

Re: With all of these MIL posts - moms of boys....
I don't have a boy obviously , but there are good examples of good MIL's. My MIL loves me like a daughter, same with my SIL (MIL doesn't have any daughters) and we have that kind of relationship you talk about. Yes, we have our small issues here or there, but she'd love to spend every day with me (and her other DIL) if she could.
You'll be a cool MIL Diana, don't worry!
And excuse me, I thought you already knew who Jack was going to marry!!!!!!!!!!

True true.
They will have to live somewhere in between the two of us though. I don't you to see them more than I do!

I wonder about this also. We had an okay relationship until DS came along. Now she is obsessed with the baby and never listens to me. MIL treats me like my opinion does not matter. I get so mad!
I hope never to become the obsessive crazy woman my MIL has become!

Yes, I do think about it and worry about it.
But I will tell you this, I have learned alot from what my MIL has done to me (and also DH, my children and my family) and I pray with all my heart that one day my sons find good women who love them, support them and respect them. I want them to be happy.
Without saying too much or getting too emotional over it (it still hurts), I can promise you that I will never do to my DILs what my MIL has done to me.
to all!

Mine too, especially the last few years. We had our rough patches around the time of the wedding because she had a hard time accepting that she was losing her little boy. But we worked through it. My IL's treat me like one of the family. I can talk to them about almost anything. I do want to by the type of MIL that I always dreamed about. Mine might not be that per se, but I definately am lucky!

I hope that I will be the MIL that my MIL is to me. She is a good woman and has stepped back both when I married her son and when I gave birth to her grandson. She is a mother and can butt in on occassion but for the most part she does know her boundaries (and that is saying a lot since she lives one floor below me!)

Re: With all of these MIL posts - moms of boys....
i can't say i've thought of this plenty but it has crossed my mind. i, too, have this fantasy of a MIL i can talk to, go to a park, share opinions and thoughts.. bond. but the reality between me and my MIL is pure disgust. she treats ppl like dirt and expect you to treat her like gold. it's a shame that my mil is this way but i think it's a lesson. all i have to do is do the opposite adn i'm sure my future DIL and i will get along nicely.

Re: With all of these MIL posts - moms of boys....
I constantly worry about this,
thinking my boys could marry some little b*tch ....
I would be SO upset,
and this is exactly the reason I have gained a whole new respect for my MIL, and make sure my sons call her & do thoughtful things for her even tho it KILLS me! lol

Re: With all of these MIL posts - moms of boys....
I havent thought about this too much and I think its because I have a great relationship with my MIL. Part of this is because my mom and my grandmother didnt get along and my mom felt she tried so hard with her DIL and yet there was still some tension there, so when I was getting married my mother and I had a talk about how she wanted me to treat my MIL, including calling her Mom. Also helps that my MIL is pretty laid back and so am I. I have the MIL who will buy me clothes because she thinks I will like them, we go out to lunch, chat/gossip, etc.
I worry more that my DIL will be complaining about Christopher the way I complain to my MIL about my DH! I feel bad knowing I am raising a boy who will have certain genetic limiations as a man ie multi-tasking, being romantic, etc

Re: With all of these MIL posts - moms of boys....
Well, moms of girls do have to be concerned about this also. I know just as many men who have MIL issues. Still, I have concern. I am also concerned about becoming a burden. DH and I have talked about the fact that I am likely to outlive him because of his diabetes. That is a painful conversation for both of us. What will happen if/when DS is all I have?
